I remember thinking during the league that he looked a lot thinner. On the radio today he revealed he was sick during the month of September and, when assessed, was told his heart was working at 15%.

He has lost over two stone naturally and has managed to avoid the suggested heart transplant or bypass by luckily responding to medication.

Lucky man - goes to show we should visit the doc at first signs of anything abnormal.

(maybe this is old news)

15%! Heart failure is diagnosed once your pumping volume is below about 40%  Wonder was it a temporary thing due to a virus or something (did his heart function recover?) or did he have an undetected heart attack. They might not bother with a procedure if the affected heart muscle was already dead

ONeill

They said he was in heart failure at the time.

Maybe I've misheard it and it was 50%?

Shane sounds like you're in need of a hearing aid.

50% is not heart failure. You were probably right.

I was surprised at how young he said he was - 59.

Remember a few of us remarking how 'shook' he looked in Castlebar for the Kerry game in Feb. He was doin an intro for the programme outside and he looked awful. He didn t look as ill on the telly. It was also noticable that his voice was very frail at that time but there seems to have been a recovery since. Hope he continues to recover his health.
