The highlight of the year again, just ahead of Christmas.

The Irish lad sings in the semis on Tuesday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNQNdHV279w

He'll get through OK but can see a mid-table finish on Saturday.

Have listened to a few of the leading contenders but think Denmark have it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlZYtfISqV8

Eurovision is awesome and I'm delighted to hear I'm not the only one on here with Eurovision fever. The bookies think Denmark will win it but it's a mediocre song. Still it's the kind of song that's often won before. The Ukraine are second favorites. Again the song isn't great but the singer is stunning. I prefer the Norwegian song. It's more original.

I don't think much of our entry - Only Love blah blah blah. Another dribbly poo thing of a pop song. I think we should enter a traditional Irish song or something with a bit of balls anyway. There's loads of talented singer-songwriters in Ireland. In the last ten years we've had Mickey Joe, Chris Doran, Dustin, the twins from Athlone and now more of the same harmless sh!te with Ryan Dolan. It's safe to say we won't win it. Indeed, the 11/4 on us not to qualify is as good an 11/4 bet as you'll ever get.

ONeill

I've listened to most in Ireland's section and it's the tough half of the draw. He should be OK but, having heard him live, he can wobble a bit.

I just don't see or hear anything in that song that'll make it stand out from all the other shiny, happy pop songs. He's a bit too old to get the teeny bopper vote too so I'm predicting a fall at the first for Ryan. Still if you asked Paddy Power, he could tell you I'm wrong much more often than I'm right.

ONeill

Ah I think you're being harsh on Ryan. If he doesn't c**k up the vocals I think he'll qualify comfortably. He's in a tough section though. A few big hitters in his group including the Danes. Just needs to finish in top 10.

Netherlands is a grower. Weird but haunting - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSWhbl3j7FA - like something from the second world war.

Would be fairly confident Ireland will qualify for the final. I think the song sounds ok on the radio, but not so much live...dance/pop sings harder to sing live. Sure hasn't the dance/trance hit been popular enough in the competition this last few years? The ballads just don't cut it anymore.

I think we'll have to wait for Andrea Begley to come up through the minor and u21 ranks before we can entertain hopes of reliving the glory days of the early 90s!

Pat Spillane has already coined the phrase "puke pop" for the Irish entry this year.
