How did Ruairi McHugh survive the cut?

Conor Oneill impressive at 6 for queens. Joey Clarke with a late goal as well

I think 4 or 5 new faces either called up this season or on the fringes of last season really stepping up and putting their claim in for a starting jersey - particularly in the half forward line area.

Will Healy Park be playable tomorrow night? Heard Dungannon pitch is closed. What other pitches in the county have lights for a Saturday night game or would there be a possibility the game be moved to Sunday?

WeeDonns

A lot of lying water in the fields around Omagh this morning, I'd expect Healy Park would be in poor enough shape right now
Are there any full sized indoor or artificial grass pitches in Ulster? If they had something like the dome in Connaught (that blew apart), all McKenna cup games could be indoor & live streamed with no cancellations etc

I would like to see some actual style of play. Was disappointed last year that we didnt seem to have any real style or plan. It was a case of get into opposition 45 and play the ball side to side and see what happens. We have direct forwards and some speed about us we need to start using it. Would like to see Mattie saved as an impact sub, think he slows the game down too much.

Promotion and League Winners - Derry only real challenger.
All Ireland Semi Final - with the state of play amongst the other teams this should be minimum expectation.

Establish McElholm in the starting 15 - I personally think Corner Forward but if he make 11 his own even better.
Nail down a consistent half forward line.
Get Championship minutes into Ruairi McCullagh, Conor O'Neill and others coming off the last two Under 20 squads with the view to them becoming established starters in 2027 and beyond.

That's a good point. I think it's vital we persist with McGarrity at full forward for the league when he's fit. It gives us a target in there and the ability to mix it up. The likes of Canavan, McCurry and McElholm can thrive of a ball winner inside to feed off.

Too much is made out of us supposedly doing better against Kerry than Donegal/Armagh

Hung with them for 40 minutes, it's a 70 minute match I don't know if any of you thought sitting in Croke Park that day "we have this" at any stage but I certainly didn't. We were also nowhere near them on the day.

While Kerry are not a million mile in front of the chasing pack and not as good as the Dublin team of 2015-2020, the problem with picking against Kerry to win the AI is who are you choosing to dethrone them. I don't think anyone is going to be good enough to beat a Kerry team who can definitely be got on the right day

100% - most of the games last year gave very little indication of what MoR was asking them to do. On a few occasions the play was direct and scintillating, but this never seemed to be the main philosophy or maintained for any length and for the most part tactics (attacking anyway) seemed to be made up on the hoof involving a relatively sedate transition so by the time the ball went into the forwards it turned into a pass back and forth x repeat masterclass.

And even with all that we were (relatively) competitive so the talent is most definitely there..

An evident style of play (with a plan b) and a settled 15-18 would be a big result from Div 2 this year.

Apparently there has been a pitch inspection and they are happy to proceed.

I know it was only MoR first season but I too was disappointed with the lack of ideas.
It was great to beat Donegal and Dublin in their own patch of course which was progress but it felt like a frustrating year with a lot more conservative, ball retention football and almost fear to go for goals or two pointers in a lot of games. I know playing against Donegal ye kinda have to mirror them.

Hope to see more of Conroy, Jordan and big McGarrity.

In hiding

I have a question for some of you ?

Some people say that they want to see us develop a style of play, what does that mean ?

Do Galway have an obvious style of play ? do Kerry ? Armagh ?

Others say that it's vital that we persist with Lorcan Mc Garrity at full forward. Is it vital ?

He is talented and maybe he is the answer but if he gets a few games and it appears that he is not the answer then is it vital that we need something different.

I appreciate that discussion boards are exactly that but as Mourinho once said, football management is the only job where the customers appear to know more than the consultant.

Let the management at it, they know better than we do
