Things to do in / near Galway

Heading away for a few days to Galway with the missus.

Any ideas of things to do / see. Don't want to just it in pub all day.

Restaurant recommendations would be handy too!

Take at lookeen at the Arans. Avoid sweater shops.

Take a stroll down the Salthill prom with a native female....then write a song about it!

Walk the prom

Charlie Byrne's bookshop

Walk down Shop Street and listen out for the Gaeilge

The spin out past Maam Cross is lovely

Go to the Gaeltacht and immerse yourself in another Ireland .

Avoid people wearing green and red.

Take a run out to Rosmuc and visit Pearse's cottage.

Surely at Maam Cross you run the risk of being beseiged by a tour bus filled by Americans who eat unhealthily?

What about the majestic Kylemore Abbey?

If they go that far up, they might as well go and visit Ireland's most stunningly beautiful county, the county of Mayo.

Clifden,Leenane and on up to Westport.As nice a drives you could get.

80% are from Mayo, 15% from Clare and at least 25% from Roscommon
