Went out for a few drinks last night with my 2 sons one who is almost 20 and takes a drink and one who is almost 18 and doesn't and was able to drive us. Great craic altogether  and something I've been looking forward to doing for years

I will be 60 by the time I can go (legally) for a few pints with my two lads. I will no doubt be even crankier than I am now. Can't see the two boys enjoying it to much.

plus 1

I love nothing better than going for a few scoops with the aul fella.

Was very disappointed when I read the contents of this thread.
I'm heading off to see Bilbao v Barcelona in 2 weeks time with a group of lads in their 40's
Anyone ever been to Bilbao before

Last year we went to see Porto beat Benfica 2-3 in a great game. The atmosphere was just crazy.

Bilbao is a bit grim compared with other towns in the Basque Country like San Sebastian. Is quite industrial.

Has a nice old quarter all the same about a mile or two from the football pitch and the big funky Guggenheim museum beside the river along the way.

Bilbao = Strabane
San Sebastian = Derry

:D

Yes would agree with that Bilbao has nothing much to offer. San Sebastian is a great town and less than an hour away.

Going to Liverpool for two nights on the batter but only options are Weds and thursday night or Sunday/Monday night. What would be the best option for hitting the town/ nightlife etc.

Wed thurs if students are your thing  ;)

San Sebastian is a great little spot. Went to a wedding there a few years ago.
Not sure about the comparison with Derry though..!
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

Its the 90s since I went boozing in Liverpool, but back then Sunday nights were absolutely dead, most of the pubs and clubs were closed.

And while the pubs and clubs were great on Fridays and Saturdays, one strange thing was most places wouldn't let you in wearing jeans.

Things may have changed in the last 10/15 years!

Thats how you knew who was a local, they were wearing a suit, lads there for the night scruffs in comparison.

San Mames is meant to be the best atmosphere to experience in Spanish football. Was in San Sebastian for a wedding a month ago and drove north from Madrid through the BAsque Country. Some spectacular sights and the food was incredible.

Donostia is a pretty Little town with a nice beach and lots of rich people.
Bilbao has a heart. Great place all together. The transformation from industrial (along the English line) grim Little place to what it is today is incredible. Pinchos, very friendly people, incredible history.
San Mames is a bit like a bit cow shed structurally, but the atmosphere is out of this world; very close to the central bus station.

Wed/thurs probably your best bet. Great city and great people. V cheap to eat and drink when you're out. Makes you realise how much we are getting ripped off here at home. Most of the pubs do great grub and you won't pay more than £3-£3-50 fora pint in a normal pub. Will of course be more expensive in the fancy places. One of the best days crack I ever had over there was in the John Lennon pub on Matthew St...it's a cellar bar with Beatles music on the loop of coursewithgorgeous pints of Guinness at £2 a pop. That was 4 or 5 years ago. Some great wee local bars evenin the city centre.

I've heard this is the last year of the San Mames stadium as they're building a new one.

Would there be any pubs there showing the league final. Presume they get Premier sports over there.
I see there is an Irish pub called the Dubliner.
It will be interesting me being the only Tyrone man amidst 10 Dubs.

Milltown Row2

Off to Newcastle this weekend, Co Durham ;)  We've a few things sorted, paint balling on Friday and Dog track on the Saturday, we've also got a few pre-arranged pub crawls, but was wondering what are the best pubs for the late 30's very early 40 year olds? The thought of heading to a nightclub with over a 1000 people in it seems odd now!!

I'll probably not remember past 10 O'clock at night but I'll ask anyways
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

I knew there was a reason to have kids. Repopulate the county and a free designated driver. Tell me more about this sexy child benefit thing I've been hearing about.
