Neil Lennon only had good things to say about him during the week.

Yeah and he scored some crucial goals in the CWC run the follwing year (the cracker away to Montpellier springs to mind). Lee Martin in the FA Cup final replay that year too is a good example.
Blackmore also cleared a shot from Michael Laudrup off the line in the Cup Winners Cup final when Barca were pushing for a late equaliser. In what was probably his greatest performance for the club. Though Ferguson's job was probably safe by that stage.

Blackmore was one of the best looking United players at the time, the senior player decided that it would be a good idea to get a full size picture of him embossed in cloth, they draped it over the treatment table and had the rookie players pretend to french and fondle the boul Blackmore, Neville said it was hysterical  to watch and Blackmore, although embarrassed went along with it for the craic.
Armagh, the one true love of a mans life.

He must have taken that with him to the West Indies during a tour, it wasn't him it was the cloth lol

The key to success is to be consistently competitive -- if you bang on the door often it will open

Ah, one of the best in the business! Aberdeen and then Man Utd. His Aberdeen record alone is phenomenal. Really got among the Big boys there! His biggest asset has been his hunger. You read of burn out and disillusionment with managers year in year out. But Fergie just keeps on going and going. As a Liverpool fan, I hate the man. But that is just a measure of how good he is!

True this. There can't be too many who have mixed such sustained success and achievement with such longevity.

It's his bitterness and control freakery that drives him on.

Where is that  "Fergie Out" placard photo from OT these days ? Airbrushed out of history??? Am (sadly )of an age to remember when MU fans hated him and were booing/ jeering  him for the most of a season at least until he won the cup.

Was at a Manu Liverpool game during that period, Liverpool were a serious good team at the time and Liverpool were beating Manu 2-0 at the time laughing their heads off at the chats coming from the Stretford end of Fergie must go, they were singing Fergie must stay. Fair play to the Manu board and I'd say Busby had a big influence on the decision to keep him. The Pool went on to win 2-1 after a OG scored by Whealan from the half way line!! Brucey on the take :o

Next game was the cup match which Robbins, well you know the rest!!
By the time Utd played Liverpool in Old Trafford that year, they were already into the Cup semi final and were down to play Oldham. So the 'Fergie Out' movement should in theory have been quelled a little bit. They were still hovering above the relegation zone around this time though.

In hindsight, maybe the Mark Robins goal against Forest in the 3rd round isn't as significant as is now made out.
United's other Cup wins were narrow wins over lower division opposition until they got to the final against Palace. Had they lost any of them, it would have rendered the Forest win meaningless.

No, it was significant at the time. As someone who is old enough to remember it, Ferguson was seriously teetering on the brink, at least in terms of press and fan dissatisfaction and agitation. In his autobiography, Fergusion claimed that that was not the case behind the scenes, but who knows if that's really the truth?

Sir Alex could afford to fire the referee's a bit more than that each match.  Sir Alex wouldn't be short of a few pound.  Sir Alex is a legend.
