Quote from: thebigfullforward on January 21, 2025, 12:00:52 PMJust took a look through the Omagh CBS team and it doesn't look overly impressive. Is there many from last year stayed on? Think I seen maybe 4 or 5. Probably don't pay enough attention to the underage club football than I should so not sure on how good they are but looked to be a drop off in quality

Why would anyone expect more than 4-5 players to carry through from one MacRory season to the next?

Sometimes if a school has an exceptionally young team the year before (much more common in smaller schools at lower grades) you could be getting more than 10 players on the panel through. there's a very big difference in having 10 starters for 2 years versus 10 players who are filling out the squad for 2 years though.

Did Omagh not have that happen last year where they were able to field players from the year previous? I didn't expect 15 starters to all be playing again but maybe 7 or 8 from the starting 15 and bench would be available

Yeah they did, hence back to back Macrory/Hogans. I don't think their team this year had any success at any level coming up through the school and looking at their team/panel they had a good number of Y12's included.

Maybe a retrospective ban of the large amalgamated team could be in order.

How? I don't agree with the Southwest Donegal set up but it doesn't have to be a closed shop for the same schools every year. Who wants to see Omagh winning again?

Thet can go onto the B fball like alot of the rest of us had to do for years.

Only 3 really - Brian Gallagher, Oisin Watson and Sean McCann. Adrian McGurren came on as a sub at various stages last year. The team had a lot of Year 12s on the panel which shows the relative lack of depth in the top two year groups.

Yes, but that is also a talented bunch of year 12s

The lads from tiny schools like Carrick would be lucky to play on teams that could compete at F level, if it existed.

While the Irish News deserves a lot of praise for extensive Schools coverage, I wish they would illustrate the age levels, grades and competitions all the games covered are being played in.

I am a bit lost after MacRory (A), McLarnon (B),  Markey (C)? I often read reports and it might be Integrated Schools at Senior level, so presumably there is a D & maybe even an E grade??

Anybody got an illustrative list of all ages & grades Cup competitions by any chance??

The website lays out the different grades after McRory, McLernon & Markey

Other competitons listed, too.

It's a wee bit hard to read

For some of the younger age groups they have all the competitions on one page

Looks like they have over 100 schools at U14.5 level which is way more than I would have guessed.

Abbey VS beat SW Donegal 0-12 to 0-10.

First Donegal school in the final since the 60s.

That'll please the purists. Nobody wanted that to say:
"First Donegal schools in the final since the 60s."

gallsman

Some of the "purists" on here haven't realised yet that Abbey are a single school.

skeog

Would that be a record for a team to only register one score?
