"Your boys took a hell of a beating" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqZTP8-8wIs

"We are the best in the world! We are the best in the world! We have beaten England 2-1 in football!! It is completely unbelievable! We have beaten England! England, birthplace of giants. Lord Nelson, Lord Beaverbrook, Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Anthony Eden, Clement Attlee, Henry Cooper, Lady Diana--we have beaten them all. We have beaten them all. Maggie Thatcher can you hear me? Maggie Thatcher, I have a message for you in the middle of the election campaign. I have a message for you: We have knocked England out of the football World Cup. Maggie Thatcher, as they say in your language in the boxing bars around Madison Square Garden in New York: Your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!"

Here' a link to one of his commentaries but  there are many more on YouTube.
I've been told by some who know him that his OTT style of commentating is for real. The guy really does get fired up.

I remember hearing that for the 1st time - absolute class, you could not beat that!

On hearing about Sid Waddell today, I remember him saying once "there's only 1 word for that, magic darts!". I may have been dreaming it, but I also seem to remember him getting the word "quintessential" into a darts commentary as well.

The master commentator misses not one detail while capturing and delivering the magic and emotion of the occasion. You'll never hear better sports commentating than this.

I can't find a link to it, but Tony O'Donoghue's commentary on David Rudisha's win in the 800m was wonderful. "Am I over-emoting?" he says after a couple of minutes of piling one superlative on top of another. No, he was not
