Crazy old world but to be fair a lot of things happened back then that were just as mad.

Too true orange man. My mother told me her doctor made her drink 6 pints of stout every day when pregnant. For 9 months she'd come in from the pub stocious and hammer the babyjesus out of my father. I turned out OK but it was a lucky escape that she wasn't drinking the XXX.
