Good effort by Leitrim the two goals gives the scoreline an unfair reflection.

The lads on midwest are very down on Mayo with there running game and feel they should be kicking long ball into the full forward line.John o mahoney reckons Donie Vaughan should be moved to midfield-he must have been talking to Moysider or else he is moysider :)

Syferus

I better ask Moysider why he used to be giving me the dirty eye in the corridors in Nathys so.

4-20 is some scoring no matter the opposition Mayo will be odds on for the final now & that will suit Sligo.

Ah, a useless game for both counties. The gap in fitness was huge. From my figures 13 different players got on the scoresheet for Mayo. As suspected Mayo (in reality) won't have their first championship game ontil the 15th of July! A crazy and unfair situation when you consider how many games other counties have played at this stage.

Time for the GAA to look at an Intermediate championship for counties like Leitrim to aspire to being competitive and winning Provincial and AI Championships.

Mayo 4-20 Leitrim 0-10

It was all too easy for Mayo as they set up a meeting with Sligo next month

Mayo booked a Connacht Football Championship final date with Sligo as the Green and Red easily defeated Leitrim at McHale Park.

First-half goals from Alan Freeman and Andy Moran gave James Horan's team a commanding 2-09 to 0-07 interval advantage.

Further three-pointers from Moran and Kevin McLaughlin sealed a crushing win, with Fabien McMorrow sent off for two yellow cards to compound a 4-20 to 0-10 loss for Barney Breen and George Dugdale's men.

From half-time all that needed to be determined was Mayo's winning margin as the holders were never seriously troubled.

Mayo were 12 clear when Moran grabbed his second major as Leitrim were completely outplayed by Horan's team.

Gutsy early on, Leitrim, with Emlyn Mulligan highly impressive, were competitive and only trailed by 0-05 to 0-04 at the end of the opening quarter.

Mayo, though, were that bit slicker in attack as wing forwards Kevin McLoughlin and Alan Dillon were motoring well.

Dillon and Mulligan traded points, but then Mayo seized control when netting a 22nd-minute goal.

Andy Moran and Lee Keegan were heavily involved in the build up as Alan Freeman rifled a blistering shot into the roof of the Leitrim
net.

Danny Geraghty added a point and though Leitrim replied with two, Mayo struck for a second goal in the 27th minute.

Donal Vaughan made a burst from defence and fed captain Moran, who provided an opportunistic finish.

Cillian O'Connor nailed a free, and then Barry Moran landed a splendid effort from play as Mayo went in at the break armed with an eight- point advantage.

In the third quarter O'Connor hit four frees on the spin after Kevin
McLoughlin and Mulligan had swapped points.

Then on 53 minutes substitute Michael Conroy's hand pass released Moran and the full-forward drilled Mayo's third goal.

Late on several of Mayo's replacements were keen to make an impact as they blasted out a warning that they are fully intent on making an impact again this summer.

With two minutes left Leitrim's McMorrow was sent off for a second yellow card following a foul on Enda Varley and McLoughlin decorated the triumph with a fourth goal in stoppage time.

Only last year Leitrim beat Sligo. If Mayo play like they did today in the final you may have to wait longer for their first championship game.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Felt sorry for the Leitrim supporters who were sitting around me.

Mayo did what they had to do, they were ruthless and couldn't be seen to give Leitrim any lee-way at all. Saying that, Galway did the same thing to Roscommon and look what happened to them. Not a match that Mayo could be judged on. Even Barry Moran got motm! At least it's a minor/senior Connacht final appearance anyway, although we shouldn't settle for just appearing in them.

Ah now our defeat to Galway was bad but not that bad would be better to compare our defeat to ye in 2009 & Mayo won a Connacht title after that game.

We have played Leitrim regularly at underage level & have always comforably beat them TBH i can't see them improving in the years ahead.

Actually ross4life it was considerably worse considering yere playing resources. At least Leitrim tried and played really well for 20 minutes.
