Quote from: Caesar on May 20, 2025, 09:08:33 AMSo by your logic Lár na páirce, a player can only be county standard if he plays for a top club team? There's plenty of examples up and down the country to prove that as nonsense.

In Antrim ? The standard is horrendous let's get real here

I'd absolutely no opinion on Cargin until I joined this forum.

And now your opinion is?

I find the Cargin contingent on here extremely arrogant and dismissive, bordering on rude, about other clubs.

I know a few Cargin folk away from here and get on with them fine. I've no ties to any men's football club in Antrim so I've no rivalry with Cargin so me wanting someone else to win in Antrim is based purely on the attitudes coming from these forums.

The siege has started early this year  ;D
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Can someone show me the evidence of where an 8 or 10 team league makes our county team better?

We will not be having access to county players through the club league campaign regardless, so with even 8 or 10 teams in Div 1 there would still be hammerings handed out, with teams who contribute strongly to Antrim being disproportionately punished and possibly relegated.

Intermediate and Junior would be stronger on the Ulster stage - that's about it.

Cargin won't win it this year, the Ulster select will. They are stacked with county men and that's before you even look at their Lavey/Derry, Armagh and Tyrone contingents. PG1 will also come good when it counts I expect. Creggan have fallen too far and there's nothing in Belfast anymore of note.

Heard it all before CK, sit back and watch the masters in action

Has a 16 team Div 1 made us better?  Evidence would say no

That wasn't what I asked

Antrim v London - Newry 1:45pm - June 1st

If I understand it right; we need to beat Tipps winning score by +5 or more scores or if Leitrim win don't give them more than 5 points better than our score to go through.

That's if we even beat Londaín.

Well Armagh have an 8-team Div 1 and they are All Ireland champions. Is that the type of evidence you want?

Conversely Tyrone have a 16-team Div 1 which is generally regarded as the best in Ulster.  Who is right then?

Both competitive yet both arrived at organically.

Antrim's decision has been undertaken with any due process but merely for self serving reasons contrary to any evidence based on certain clubs performances.

Perhaps the 16 team league will work eventually to raise all clubs, but it will need time to settle as we are currently left with a shockingly poor Div 2 standard and a weird hybrid Div 1. Seeing as the reasoning was poor and rushed from the start, maybe leaving the leagues alone for a few seasons to settle will tell us more.

SaffronSports

A player will develop more playing as many matches as possible at a competitive level.

In my opinion, Antrim don't really have even 8 "senior" clubs but you probably need that as a minimum for a league. The problem is now, nobody will vote for change. You'll have half of division 1 not voting for it as they don't want to go down then 2 and 3 won't vote for it as it will mean stronger clubs coming down and knocking them further back from winning a league at their level.

The county issue, very simply should mean that league placings have no bearing on promotion or relegation in the championship.

Take the Mark

Around a third of league games to date (div 1) have resulted in 10 - sometimes more - point drubbings. This is before the usual SFC challengers start pitch training too, which I'd wager is only starting around now.
