All-Ireland final dates.

Lads,

Just a quickie for you know-almost-everything folks.

I know that the senior finals are played on the 1st and 3rd Sunday in September but does this apply regardless of thye date? What i mean is that if the 1st Sunday actually falls on the 1st of September is the date set in stone?

We were discussing it in the pub and i was'nt quite sure. I'm sure the info is available somewhere but you lads are better than google in my opinion.

2005 AI hurling final was played on 11th Sept, which was 2nd Sunday.
2005 AI football final was played on 25th Sept, which was 4th Sunday.

So i guess iti snt set in stone

It was traditionally 1st and 3rd Sundays but changed to 2nd and 4th for a while. 1996 Hurling final was on 1st September.

I think from 1997 the date of the AI finals was moved to the 2nd & 4th Sundays (can't remember the reason why ).  In 2006 the finals were moved back to the 1st and 3rd Sundays due to the Ryder Cup and have stayed there since.
