Any information about how much was raised at croker on Sunday. I hope he got plenty of support
I was at the hurling final on Sunday and saw the Mark McGovern collection which looked to be well supported but did not hear of any final figure.  I don't often compliment them but fair play to the G.A.A suits who authorised this and I hope they do the same for the football final.

what the feck is going on, surely a reck of folk seen what happened...does no-one else find this scandalous and sickening?  :(

Someone received a 2 year suspension from the GAA. Not sure whether they came forward voluntarily or not.

Two entirely seperate issues here:

1. GAA investigation - the alleged aggressor has received a 96 week suspension
2. Criminal investigation - under Irish law the GAA can proceed with disciplinary sanctions as they aren't deemed prejudicial to a criminal investigation - the SF police have named the other guy as a 'person of interest' but have no statements or evidence to charge him

Somebody's been arrested anyway.

On a less serious note, its a bit much to describe Mark McGovern as one of Gaelic football's most decorated stars!

No he's not one of Gaelic footballl's most decorated stars, but he's a Gael in need. But this is what's great about the greater GAA family, that we all pull together for one of our own.

Patrick Power released without charge because none of this great GAA family who look after their own would give evidence against him.

You would think that the fact that he has got a 96 week ban would be proof enough that he did it and that could be used in court.

Well I don't know either player, but we're not talking about Irish sentencing here - E3000 fine and a year's probation. Do you think the fella deserves 10 or 20 years in a US prison?

I would like to think the standard of proof required to send me to jail would have to be a bit higher than that used to suspend me from a hobby.

Why not?

Interested to know what the actual charge would be? Becasue you have to look at the intent. This was no accident. He deliberatly set out to serious hurt the person. Mark was close to death. So it would seem to be more than GBH, but I dont think you could call it attempted murder.. Whats inbetween GBH and attempted murder?
