Seán Óg Ó Ceallacháin Retires

I came on to the site fully expecting a thread about the retirement of Seán Óg Ó Ceallacháin. Along with Michael O Hehir and Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh he was synonomous with the GAA. I was always fascinated with his GAA results on a Sunday nigh and all the little parish and club names.

I am sure that his voice has been heard all around the world in recent years with RTE radion being online.

Sunday night GAA results will never be the same again.

Who is the new announcer? I'd love it be Marty Morrissey and hopefully he wouldn't have time to commentate or do interviews.

Prior to text/email/internet I used to tune into this religoulsy to see how my home club Mostrim did

Was it just me but did he always do Leinster last and always do Longford last in Leinster?

The amount of effing Sligo/Waterford/ South Kerry/ North Kerry/ I cannot believe it's Kerry/ results i had to suffer through to hear 'Mostrim 1-06 Longford Slashers 2-10' was unbelievable.

A gentleman by all accounts.

I wish him well in his retirement.

I dont know. Seán Óg did it tonight. There were some nice tributes too. It should be online.

As they say, It was far from "online" that Seán Óg was reared!!!

I used to volunteer in a homeless shelter in London that had a big Irish clientele. There was one old timer from Kerry who was a fount of knowledge about sourcing Denny's sausages in the city. One evening he got onto talking about Sunday nights and the ritual of tuning in the radio to some RTE signal and Sean Og reading the results. Every Sunday during the season it was the same. The link to home even though he hadn't been back in 40 years.

Would anyone be able to post a link to his last broadcast ? Like seafoid, I have fond memories of sitting with old men in Quex Road in Kilburn waiting to hear if their club ( from 30 years earlier) put one over the rivals. It used to annoy them ( and me) if he only did the top divisions but I suppose there had to be limit !

He always got Kilglass Gaels wrong , kept calling it "Killyglass"
