One of the worlds greatest songwriters with one of the worlds worst voices.

Why are there not more decent covers of his songs - only ones I can think of off the top of my head that are good:

Wilco / Fleet Foxes - I shall be released
Edie Brickell - A Hard Rain

mc_grens

Adele did a good version of "Make You Feel M y Love"

Knockin on Heaven's Door - Guns n Roses
All along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
Mr Tambourine Man - the Byrds
It ain't Me Babe - Johnny Cash

The band - When I paint my masterpice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wq2e7DPhyHg&feature=related

Earl Scruggs/The Byrds - You ain't goin nowhere - starts about the two minute mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqbswmcdaSY&feature=related

According to 'chronicles', this is Dylans own favourite, Johnny Winters - Positively 4th street http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kh314bSB5lA

Clancy Brothers with Tommy maken - When the ship comes in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kh314bSB5lA

Nina simone - I shall be released http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyCn8IC5RpE

Sophie Zelmani - Most of the time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts6gZFEiMkM

My own favourite for today is Johnny Winters 'Highway 61' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9j25V4iw94

As I say, too many to mention. Elvis does a great 'Tomorrow is a long time' and the white strips and Jeff Buckley have done
a few cracking versions too. Enough for now.

Ah ah ah - he might be a bad singer but he has a good voice, there's a big difference. His lyrics are believable when he sings them - if some dildo off American Idol sang Don't Think Twice It's Alright technically note perfect I reckon I wouldn't be half as moved. Same as MacGowan's singing, it just fits. Though there's obviously times when both are rubbish.

I think Dylan is in the Guinness Book of Records as being the most covered artist ever, so there must be some that you like. I personally do an incredible jazz cover of Masters of War

You should put that up on You Tube.  I'd like to hear that.

That has to be the world's worst assessment of a legendary artist.

Dylan was always going to be a magnet for cover versions-great songwriter sans a note in his head, Byrds Mr Tamourine Man Animals House of the Rising Sun great but all pales into insignificance in my opinion when compared to Hendrix giving Like a Rolling Stone the Live treatment.

One of my all time favourites bar none.

I think the first song Dylan ever recorded was "Tribute to Woody" (Guthrie). Christy Moores album Prosperous, effectively a Planxty album includes a very fine cover, can't find it on youtube though

Who could forget entombed's version of hollis brown. As for him not having a note. Do Ye prefer the talentless x factor generation that play no instrument, write no lyrics, have zero creativity/originality and steal other peoples songs?

Hardy

Bob wasn't above stealing other people's songs himself.  In all fairness, like.

Aye Dominic Behan was nay too enamoured with him

Main Street

Where did Dominic get the song from?

Invariably the cover versions of 'a hard rain gonna fall' are pop pulp.
Here's Dylan doing it in 1975

Joan Baez is wailing in the backgound. As lovely as her voice is,  the song is a vibrant force due to Dylan's delivery. His voice is an added instrument giving each word and phase a meaning just as important as the song itself.

Here's Bob doing a fervid version in 1994 with the Tokyo Philharmonic orchestra
