Remember the shite we had to listen to during Euro 96

... all together now ... "It's not coming home, it's not coming home, it's not coming, football's not coming home..."

Ugh. Good point. Mrs d reacted like she'd been punched when I mentioned how much I enjoyed Andreas Möller's goose-step on scoring the winning penalty in the Euro 96 shoot-out. I felt a bit guilty. But only a little bit, they were bloody insufferable

What a bunch of arrogant fools! How are they going to spin this result to show that this wasn't an embarrassment! Would this not tell them just how pompus and unpopular they are in the eyes of the outside world! Russia beat them by a country mile and they have hardly even got a stadium ffs!  ;D

There was a show on sky sports the other day about the Qatar bid and it looked really interesting (from a nerdy point of view).  Apparently they had created mini replicas of all the stadia they are going to construct and had them powered by solar panels for the fifa inspectors to visit.  They were also using some strange type of air conditioning with a wall of cold air around the tops of the stadium so that it didnt matter what the temperature was the place would never heat up.  They were also saying a number of the stadia would be taken down after the wc and moved to other countries in the area at the Qatar government's expense.  Oh and they had Zinedine Zidane

I see Bechkam on news saying the one statement that really p***** me off " we have the best, most passionate fans in the world.  They give us great support wherever we go".  Hear it all the time from English people, short memories to say the least

It gets worse (or better, if you prefer). England already had one vote, so they effectively spent £15 million to get one vote. The fallout in English soccer is going to be epic

The Beeb are saying England got TWO votes. No likes them. They care.

Edit: they'll feel a bit better at the news that Australia only got one vote. A 2-1 win in the Ashes would do nicely :)

one of england's 2 votes was their own !!

More disappointed about the USA losing out in 2022. Oh well usually a shite tournament anyway, Euros is better.

The key to success is to be consistently competitive -- if you bang on the door often it will open

And the other vote was from one of the men that Panorama implicated in their documentary

All the Brit media, bar the Guardian I think, seemed to think it was a "huge boost" for the English bid that Putin was not attending the event. He obviously knew it was done and dusted.

Was listening to talk sport on my way. f**k it was hilarious. They were on about Qatar and it being beside Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq etc
They also were going on about all of the places they had went to play friendlys and now didn't get their votes lol
