First day I  noticed them  this year was the day of the   verdict of Bloody Sunday case. ITV  newsreader had a  massive one on her.  Something tells me it  wasn't a coincidence

I'd generally hope the majority of society's general ambition is a bit more than "let's match the stupidity of the poppy brigade".

People being outraged over this is bonkers, don't give it oxygen and move on
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Lincoln fined for  McClean abuse

It is baffling after all these years why he continues to  get abuse.  The poppy fascism  runs deep in Britain , and with  northern unionists.

Surely the  details of the  Bloody Sunday trial recently (regardless of the  lack of a conviction)  shows why McClean does not  wear a poppy.

You honestly think the average brit knows about this and/or gives a shiny shite Austin...

Look-Up!

The average brit gets their info from British media. Can't remember exactly what it was about, maybe the time of Brexit negotiations, but Ch4 I think had an "Irish affairs expert" on talking about the negotiations and the Irish government stance on Brexit and how it was tied in with the upcoming Irish presidential election at the time. It was the wildest take I had heard but if "people in the know" are so hopelessly off the pulse it's no surprise the average brit would be so uninformed and probably care less on what happens here.

Couldn't give a shit about people wearing a poppy. It's the whole nonsense ( poppy fascism to quote Mr Snow) around it that's irritating.

By the way, nobody is making you read the thread

The way things are nowadays I can't say I hold the same hope

Maybe not , but  some Brits have been through the likes  of Hillsborough and the miners strikes. So, it's not as if their own  police/security forces arent capable of  acts of  gross negligence, lying on oath, and murder.

Look at the lies  perpetrated by the  government, police chiefs, media  etc  after Hillsborough , and the  decades of campaigning , inquiries and court cases those families  have been on.  The people of Liverpool (and elsewhere) knew the truth about Hillsborough  decades ago. Has anyone  been convicted  of  anything to date?

Anyway, I suppose  many other  Brits believe what they  are spoonfed,  never question their  overlords.  But those two examples should  make even the most naive minds  question things.

I read this thread for the same reason that I sometimes listen to GB News or Talk Radio, lol.

Man must set a reminder for this post  ;D

Was it always a thing that you were picked on if you didn't wear one or was this a thing the media decided to create?

The poppy thing is just something that seems to have grown more legs over the years for whatever reason. If it was like that from the start fair enough but I don't think it has been. (In England / Scotland / Wales I mean)

general_lee

I think the war in Iraq along with football teams putting them on their shirts really kickstarted it

imtommygunn

Yeah I think you could be right.
