In the last 20 years (coinciding with the end of the troubles) since 1990 Ulster has took over as number 1 province.
Provice           All Irelands Won                    Number of Counties to win Sam
Ulster                      8                                                  5
Munster                   7                                                  2
Leinster                    3                                                  2
Connacht                  2                                                  1

That dominance can continue tomorrow.

So Mike just because Kerry have won 36 All Irelands you look down on the rest & laugh at them?

& redhand don't wanna be picky but.. what "troubles" were in Donegal?
The key to success is to be consistently competitive -- if you bang on the door often it will open

Hard to know were to start about the troubles in Donegal.

I dont know why ye nordies get all emotional about this 'ulster' provincal thing? is it because there's no outstanding county up in that part of the country that ye have to drum up the figures from all the rest of the area to take the bad look off ye?

When the feck did 1990 become the yardstick, Yerra ye Ulster bies and girleens are very provincial when ye want to be, but tis always best to look at the whole of history and not just the sexy bits you pick out to make it look good.

So in 126 years of football its Munster: 48 and Ulster: 16  and I won't even do the provincial thing in the hurling as its bad enough in the football  ;)

We're following the lead of the great munster fans, rugby's finest band of supporters, invented circa 1999.
Or could it be the munster hurling final, the greatest sporting occasion in the country, allbeit contested by also rans from time to time, as the teams who matter have decided to aim to peak later in the year.

Very mean-spirited thread on the eve of the All-Ireland Mike. Shame on you.

Sandino

I have always thought that is was an amazing feat that in the 12 year period from 1992 until 2003 five different teams from Ulster won the Sam Maguire! That is some record.

Mike you are missing Under 21 B Champions, maybe there's no room for it.

The view is still mighty fine from up here tonight even with a bit of thunder just off our east coast, and we now have 49 All Ireland Senior Football winners in Munster, yerra we're a great wee province for a hurling province. ;)

Well done the Langers , there will be some skelping at the league game in the spring  :P
