Care to elaborate.
Bigotry. Sectarianism. Small-mindedness. Xenophobia. Homophobia.
I wouldn't like to be considered with that sort of thing.

Gallsman those words could be used to describe any race/nation. They describe some of the worst traits in mankind and I also wouldn't like to be associated with any of them.
But and I would guess that the majority of posters on this board when they are in the "real world" would be different from their internet personas. Certainly there are some gobshites on this board, but within every large population you will get some people with the attitudes listed above, what we cannot do is let a few bad apples taint the entire barrel.

That's why restricted my comment my initial comment to the "Irishness" that some people on this board display through those traits.

GAA BOARD MEMBER IN "I'M NOT APOLOGETIC ABOUT BEING IRISH" SHOCKER!

I was thinking of starting this thread myself because it really is a bit sad to see the lack of respect and loyalty so many posters here have to their country. I was just looking through the GAA and General Discussion sections today and among the things being ridiculed by posters were the GAA itself, Irish language, Irish dance, Amhrán na bhFiann, Irish culture as an entity, references to the "mainland" UK and repeated partitionist statements typified by that complete b*****ks Mike Sheehy.

I dont consider you as Irish..therfore partition is the most logical way to preserve the Irishness of my country. Uniting with you would simply dilute that Irishness.

oh, and you are a stupid c**t as well. Thats another reason I dont want you in my country.

Just like we believe football was invented in 2003 you believe Ireland was invented in 1921. Both are correct of course ;)

On the contrary, I dont believe Ireland was "invented". I believe she is eternal and someday Ireland will unite with the remaining 6 counties of its ancient province of Ulster but first we must root out the collaborators that allowed the plantations to suceed...we must weed out those , like Nally Stand and his ancestors, that took the English corn while their countrymen starved during the famine. This goes way back before 1921. you lecture us on nationalism ??...we drove the planters from our lands while your Earls ran away to Europe.  You are not pure enough to rejoin this land as you have been tainted. The Sassenach blood runs thick in your treacherous veins.

Oh dear, what a weak and pathetic grasp of Irish history: those earls (O'Neill and O'Donnell), unlike the earls of Munster (such as the Geraldines, who themselves were descendants of Norman Planters), actually routed the Planters from Munster, the Planters who had been long established in Munster before the first footfall of a Planter in Ulster. And they had to traipse the whole length of Ireland on the Munster folks' behalf, not once but twice!

It's  (unsurprisingly) not surprising to learn that you know as much about Irish history as you do about football - sweet feck all.

:P :D

Good man Mike, I see they have invented a time machine down in Kerry or are you going to dig up these traitors and give them a good hiding. ::) You really should pay a visit to a library sometime.

That's like saying anyone with a 'Mc' in their name is Scotch-Irish so needs to be sent back to the Highlands..... I'd better pack my bags.  Somehow, I'm sure the Earls took a trip out in 1607 or faced being slaughtered, or, worse still, forced to lie down as slaves. I think they probably took the best, short-term option, as they thought, in the hope they'd come back some day in greater numbers.

PS Gallsman, is my medal in the post?!!!

This thread stinks of insecurity
Couldn't agree more. It's like the loyalists and their need to fly flags and paint kerbstones.

Can't see the problem with this thread or the reasons for starting it, FAM is proud to be Irish, whats wrong with that? I certainly don't read into it that he's insecure!!
Seems to me that there's some on this board who are almost ashamed to be Irish.
There's no reason to feel pride or shame because of your nationality. It's simply an accident of birth. I feel lucky to have been born in Ireland, given some of the war torn, poverty stricken places on earth one could have been born in. That said, I probabaly would've felt just as fortunate if I'd be born in some other western democracy.

Not half as fortunate as the rest of us would have felt :P
