heard it for the first time tonight. stewart clarke of hot press described it as their best single in 30 plus years and then expains that it was recorded in 1972 and didn't make the cut for Exile on Main Street, a double album no less. Shows what a great band they were then, now micko and the lads are their own tribut band, and have been for 35 years.

Good tune...  open like an easy listening Eagles-sounding song.

As a matter of interest, have they released any decent single in the last 30 years??

not in my opinion anyway. think there was a five year period from 68 to 72 when no band touched them and not many since have. this is as good as anything they've done in 30 years and it couldn't make the cut back then. always preferred them with Mick Taylor in the band.

1981's Waiting on a Friend from Tatoo You was a nice mellow song, although I think most of the songs on that album where outtakes from the early 70s (just about squeezes into the last 30 years in terms of release though!). Easy song for anyone trying to learn guitar! Start Me Up is from the same album, although its not a song I'm especially fond of.

Anybody Seen By Baby? from '97 was decent too. Early role for Angelina Jolie in the video.

Of course, this is all relative. They're not a patch on their late 60s/early 70s stuff!

The comment about them being a tribute band to themselves is very true though. That's where the likes of Springsteen beats them hands down, still coming up with new, fresh, decent material after all these years.

Quotenot in my opinion anyway. think there was a five year period from 68 to 72 when no band touched them and not many since have. this is as good as anything they've done in 30 years and it couldn't make the cut back then. always preferred them with Mick Taylor in the band.

Couldn't agree more with you there, in that time period they were fantastic really came into their own from first being a blues cover band, through the 60s pop. Was a pity Taylor lasted such a short time with them, i read a great book called STP on their American tour in 1972, and reading no wonder Taylor couldn't hack the lifestyle, not many could

Listen out in the stones song for the lyric 'I f*cked your woman for money' in the chorus ....

Not the usual for the stones but seemingly it is the lyric .. although Jagger sings it in a way that cloaks it enough for radio.

Great track

Good tune, probably would have improved the original album. Can't say I was ever a fan of Exile on Main Street. IMO it marked the start of their decent into what would ultimately become pastiche parody of themselves, but I agree with AC that "there was a five year period from 68 to 72 when no band touched them and not many since have."

The Gs Man

Unreal tune!

2nd best band ever.

Just got to listen to it there. Its all right, but not much different to other ones they did around that time. Not a million miles away from Tumbling Dice, albeit a bit slower. Wouldn't listen to it again. They've done much better.
