In my head, the Brits are always devious, always looking to see what can be twisted to suit their means

My wife is from Trinidad which was a British colony up until 1962, at which point they gained independence, they would never have gained independence though if the Brits had realised there was a shit load of oil and natural gas off the northern coast.  Fortunately for Trinidadians, the oil deposits were only discovered after '62
