the Ulster Council will not move their dates, thats for sure. Dual clubs are being hit by the Ulster council cause they don't recognise hurling here in the north
milltown a wee gracious come down would be in order

Yes wanderer was a great move by the Ulster Council, they obviously had a look at our Board and thought better of it :D

We didn't have that problem last year, but were playing hurling one week football the next with virtually the same team!! Did us no harm...

maybe so, just find it odd that some of the southern players seem to have to make a choice between the two

Anyone with a Betfair account should lay Crossmaglen 'till their nose bleeds (as a mate of mine would say).  A pale imitation of their former selves.

ONeill

I can't see Galls slipping up in Ulster despite not playing anywhere near last year's level, yet.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

6/1 for Carrickmore!! That is unbelievable short odds. Sounds more like what they are for the Ulster title.

Naomh Conaill finish strong to advance past Kingscourt in Ulster Senior Club Championship Preliminary Round

Kingscourt Stars 0-11 Naomh Conaill 1-12

Anthony Thompson stood up and was counted and Leo McLoone bagged a goal as Naomh Conaill came from behind to overcome Cavan champions Kingscourt Stars, in Kingscourt, on Sunday afternoon.
Trailing by three points for the first time in the game and looking in a spot of bother early in the second half, skipper Thompson did what captains are supposed to do; he stood up and was counted.

With the plan of hanging back and holding the middle out the window, the centre back drove forward and ran at the Kingscourt defence at every opportunity.

And with those around him taking the captain's lead, it was the locals who were in bother and on the back foot.

In the space of three minutes with points from Dara Gallagher, Thompson himself and John O'Malley, the Donegal champions had wiped out Kingscourt early second half flurry to tie up the game for the fifth time at 0-8 each

Thompson's own effort could have easily been a goal but for a good save from Brendan McCormack deflecting it over his own bar.
While the razor sharp Ryan McCormack restored the local advantage it was shortlived as within seconds Naomh Conaill had gained parity once again after Brendan McDyre sidestepped a number of defenders to slot over.

And with McDyre, Leo McLoone, Eoin Waide and Johnny McLoone taking a leaf out of the captain's book, the scored flowed. O'Malley and Brick Molloy kicked two mighty points before Leo McLoone got on the end of a good move to hit the Kingscourt net; Dara Gallagher providing the final ball with an inch perfect pass.

That was on 49 minutes and with the scent of victory in their nostrils and leading 1-11 to 0-09, McCormack did heighten the tension when he reduced the margin to three points with two pointed frees.

But it was smiles all round again among the travelling support when Brick Molloy landed the insurance point four minutes from the end.
Naomh Conaill started well and had two points on the board inside seven minutes. Leon Thompson hit the first on four minutes after taking a delicately weighted pass from Johnny McLoone and Dara Gallagher, from a 40 metre free, added the second three minutes later.

Two attacks, two scores. This was in sharp contrast to Kingscourt who had shot two of their four first half wides and also had dropped a ball into Stephen McGrath's hands.

On nine minutes Colm Smith fisted the Cavan champions opening score after good work along the endline from Barry Reilly. Reilly converted a free soon afterwards to tie up the game at 0-2 each.

The sides were level three times more in the remaining 20 minutes of the half as the game ebbed and flowed from end to end though in fairness to the locals they did enjoy the greater share in the
possession stakes.

Dermot Molloy and Barry Reilly and Molloy and Ryan McCormack traded points before McCormack gave Kingscourt into the lead for the first time with six minutes remaining in the half.

John O'Malley levelled matters once again. But it was Reilly who had the last say in the half to give the home team a 0-6 to 0-5 half-time advantage.

This was a hard fought victory uncompromising and at times physical encounter with the physically stronger Cavan champions imposing their style on the game.

This was especially so in the first half and it seemed to knock Naomh Conaill off the stride especially out around midfield where they struggled to get their hands on sufficient ball to make inroads up front.

But it was a different story in the second period when they decided to run at the Kingscourt defence. And with the visitors having the more potent forward line, as was even evident in the first half on a limited supply, the scores flowed and Naomh Conaill hit 1-7 to 0-4 after Kingscourt's initial second half flurry.

Naomh Conaill: Stephen McGrath; Tommy Donoghue, Johnny Bonner, Ciaran Boyle; Marty Boyle, Anthony Thompson (0-1), Eoin Waide; Martin Regan, Johnny McLoone; Brendan McDyre (0-1), Leo McLoone (1-0), Dara Gallagher (0-2,2f); John O'Malley (0-3), Dermot Molloy (0-4,1f), Leon Thompson (0-1). Subs: Dominic Bonner for C. Boyle 3; Conal McNelis for L. Thompson 59; Seamus Corcoran for J. O'Malley 61.

Kingscourt Stars: Brendan McCormack; Shane Gray, Thomas Wakely, Keith McCabe; Barry Tully, Alan Clarke, J.P. Reilly; Colm Smith (0-1), Gavin Sheenan; Barry Reilly (0-3,1f), Philip Smith, Joe McMahon (0-1); Thomas Malone (0-1), Ryan McCormack (0-5f), Darryl Martin. Subs: Mark McGovern for S. Gray 26; Mark McKeon for D. Martin 42; Niall Malone for G. Sheenan 53; Philip Tinnelly for J. McMahon 55

One of the St Galls mentors won the half time draw ( £100 stg ) at the Armagh county final in Crossmaglen on sunday.
His next visit here will not be as joyous. ;)

Unless, of course, he wins the half time draw again. :D
