In fairness chaps if he had held the interview in a spartan office he would have been branded "cold" and "clinical" so don't be getting too caught up in that. Every aspect of politics and politicians lives are "choreographed" to an extent.

Aye fair enough, but don't tell me you (the most cynical person on the board!!) were taken in by his angst and despair??

Ah come on.  The reaction was a complete fake and done totally to gain the sympathy vote.  The very day after he discovered the affair and his wife tried to commit suicide this man was able to go to work and act like nothing happened.  Surely 10 months down the line the same man could have maintained the stiff upper lip again when the raw emotion had died down a bit... anyone who believes that his emotion was genuine is being VERY foolish imho...

Shamrock Shore

Hmmm.

9 months later......acting like he heard 30 mins earlier......giving it back at Dispatch Box in Stormont the morning after the alleged suicide attempt.....

No - the bullshit alarm in my brain has gone off. This is deflection. Focus on the molehill and one might miss the mountain.

Wouldn't happen Dine Site  :-\

Some interesting points being raised here.  The size of the writing was funny, plus the highlighted bits, what was that about?  I can hear the PR team now, "The highlighted bits are when you should start to cry Peter.   It'll be great!"

Honestly, I think this was set up to the extreme.  Surely Iris was most depressed when she was suicidal.  You can't get much more depressed than that.  Would it not have made sense to step down then, instead of ten months later?  Maybe she needed a claim or two in to afford the Christmas pressies.  I think there'll be a lot more to follow in the week's and months ahead.  I have to admit, Peter put on a good show but I think the tears were more for a political career thats crumbling, not an affair that occurred ten months ago!  In my honest opinion, I was glad to see two people who look down their noses and comment and judge everyone else crumble for everyone to see.  If that makes me a bad person, then so be it, I can happily live with that.

Can you imagine if it had of been Adams or McGuiness, there wouldn't have been so much 'poor wee Peter' as there was in this case.  Fu$k me, when I turned it on last night I thought the Punt had returned home to a mass murder in his home.  It was ten months ago, if he's still crying about it now, then he should have kicked the Virus out long ago!
I'm gonna punch you in the ovary, that's what I'm gonna do. A straight shot. Right to the babymaker.

Iris stands down as she claims she's nuts.

Iris issues a statement re. her affair which took place 18 months ago.

Peter states he found out about this affair when she was about to "top" herself 10 months ago.

Spotlight are about to put the Robinsons under the "spotlight".

It's all set up that whatever comes out,Iris will take the hit and in turn will put it down to  mental problems
  that she has been having.

End result-Peter is still in power and Iris goes back to the kitchen sink

Excuse my ignorance. I have seen "Punt" used by several posters.

What and Why ?

Or take away the p (for Peter) in punt and replace with a "c"

Have to admit I found it all a bit stage managed.  Compare Peter's demeanour last night with his demeanour in the Assembly a few hours after his wife allegedy tried to commit suicide.  He was laughing and joking about how little he knew about agriculture.

I would think something else is to come out and Iris will have to take the heat and say she was ill.

Peter is supporting of his wife to have those views, like he should as a good faithful husband.

I don't think it's right for a leading ploitican to support the views of a biggot for any reason.

Edit - I suppose if the politican is a biggot too it's right to be honest.

There is a difference to supporting the views and supporting the right to hold those views.
Whether its right or not for Peter to support his wife to have those views is another question.
I think,  though I cant be certain, that I was answering to claims that Peter shared his wife's controversial views/outbursts on homosexuality.

I suppose, from a political responsibility point of view, failure to condemn such outright bigotry makes Peter just as culpable.

I do stick to my point, that while Iris, being a person who ticks many (if not all) boxes of the irrational but enthusiastic dimwit, is a sincere bigot whereas Peter is a calculated bigot and does not appear to sincerely share the same lunacy.

Did anybody hear Sammy Wilson on Nolan this morning ?

Nolan asked him if he knew who Iris was having the affair with ? He answered no.

Nolan asked him when it was that he found out about it ? He answered yesterday.

Nolan asked him if he knew about the fianancial allegations - He said he hadn't a clue.

Interesting if all his answers are true.
