Horse racing and golf are big employers, they bring money into the country. Greyhound racing shouldn't get as much.
Money for a Ryder Cup has a payback in marketing Ireland abroad.

Soccer is popular, but a lot of that is English soccer. It costs the Irish economy. Irish soccer fans spend millions on tv subscriptions and trips to England.

Both Horse and Greyhound Racing are net contributors to the economy and if you abolished the Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund in the morning there wouldn't be a single additional penny of that available for other sports.

Well in that case, let's just carry on with the status quo. No money for facilities for kids, but tens of millions prize money for billionaires.

You're convoluting two separate arguments.

::)
Apologies. I was a year out.
You haven't a clue what you're talking about.
Show me a year where the GAA got all the grants and every other sport got nothing.

Here is 1993 for example. GAA getting everything?

Any chance of addressing this?

Rossfan

That lad throws a lot of unsubstantiated statements in here.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

"The GAA got 100% of all funding until Bertie" - FALSE
"No sport other than Gaelic games got one cent of capital grant funding in the 20th century." - FALSE

I was wrong. There was a small amount given in 1999.

You are mixing up Lottery grants with capital grants. The point remains the GAA got all of the Department funding and still gets most of it.

1. Remove horses and dogs and they do.

2. All capital grants, yes.

3. 1999 aside, they did.

Am I? We have the lowest funding of sport in any OECD country. €220m for 2025. Half of that goes towards horses and dogs. 10m to the GPA. 58m for a Ryder Cup we already have. 10m to the NFL. There is f**k all left and it shows.

Good.

Is there no pansyballboard.com you could pollute?

You keep changing the goalposts, so let's simplify it. Point out the years when GAA got 'all the money' and soccer got none.
