Curran: Queen Paid for your titles

By Orla Bannon

Former Roscommon goalkeeper Shane Curran has launched an astonishing attack on Tyrone and Armagh claiming their All-Ireland success is down to the Queen!

The cheeky comments were made in Curran's weekly column in the "Roscommon Champion."

Curran insisted the northern counties' success had little to do with ability- and more to do with financial assistance from the British government.
"Since the inception of the back-door, demographics along with financial clout, have dictated who does and does not compete for All-Ireland honours," he said.
"The emergence of the northern counties owes much to the peace process and the financial assistance afforded to them by her Majesty than any real innovation.
Money has played a significant part in the development to which Tyrone and to a lesser extent Armagh have made to the modern game"

This guy isn't the brightest tool in the box, it would have been helpful if he had of explained exactly whay he meant by 'the financial assistance afforded to them by her majesty'
cccc is a true supporter lol

blewuporstuffed

just wondering, do tyrone & armagh really spend more on their county teams than other top counties?
would tyrones expeniture on the county senior set-up be more than say, dublin or kerry, or even galway, now that they have big joes 'mileage' to look after?
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

CLUB TYRONE might be more to do with it than her madge!

BerfArmagh

thats hilarious, i have'nt laughed as much in years. Of course she was so found of us in Armagh that she tried to john the crossmaglen club, offering to extend her army base over its grounds. I think he should spend more of his energy analysing why roscommon have slumped to the bottom 5 in ireland

Good man Shane Curran !
Laughed at that and while it is funny for a whole load of reasons, he has a bit of a point !

Peace process and cessation in people being persecuted allowed northern Gaels to finally concentrate on football and work and not have the opprssive bulls**t always in their faces as was before.
The money was more forthcoming from her majestrys gov so obv it was well spent !
