Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh and a panel of experts from The Star and TG4 have selected a shortlist of twenty five players who they consider to be the finest stars of the GAA in the last 25 years. Now we need your votes to decide who will be crowned the best footballer and hurler of the last 25 years, and who will be honoured during the 125 celebration game in Thurles on 1st November.

DJ ahead of Whelahan, Shefflin and Nicky English for me.
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

Jesus where do ya start with this one ? Impossible.

Not sure i would ave Sean Og in that list

I'd have thought Offaly would merit a few more names in there.

Sean Og and Tony Browne shouldn't be on that list. Good hurlers but more athletes and competitors than real skilled hurlers IMO.

Brian Whelehan was the man for me. Henry not a far behind second though.

+1 apart from the bit about Browne
Westmeath - Home of the Christy Ring Cup...

slow corner back

The majestic Joe Cooney got my vote for his skill and leadership in an era when skillful players were fair game for all concerned and for how his career with both Galway and Sarsfields ran on deep into the ninties winning all ireland clubs to go with all his national leagues and all irelands from his time with Galway. Whelahan and Shefflin two and three, but not sure in which order.

Probably wasn't the best, though I'm not sure how that is measured, but Nicky English did it for me. Class ... fantastic to watch and had the privelege of being in Semple Stadium when he kicked the goal in the Munster final in 1987 (or was it '88?) past Ger Cunningham.
My cousin Pat  ::) played corner forward on that Tipp team... great player too

Red Hurley

I'd go with Dj or Whelehan followed by Joe Cooney and Ciaran Carey not too far away

johnneycool

Seany McMahon by a country mile lads.

Mickey Linden

Should Gary Kirby be there? Not the best by any means but I always thought he was a superb hurler and deserved a place in top 25?

muppet

Jeysus I shudder at the make up of these list.

Who in their right minds thinks a Kilkenny corner back is a candidate for the best hurler of the last 25 years?

There's a man who likes his 'fancy dan's'

As with the football one, seems weighted towards players from the mid-90s onwards.  Judging from the past 15 years I'd say its close between McMahon, Whelahan, DJ and Sheflin, but Sheflin would edge it.

whiskeysteve

tommy dunne and martin storey notable absentees for me.

hard to look past shefflin overall
