Chelsea did nothing wrong in the Mikel case. It's fairly well documented that Mikel's agent forged documents that corrupted the whole Mikel scenario.

HA HA. Well that scuppers that Russian oil geniuses best laid plans to win everything by paying way too much for players who are too old to be paying out that type of money for. On the field this won't really hurt Chelsea though. This will allow the 1st team squad to be more settled and secure in their job safety, and may help morale. They also have a lot of strength in depth, players out on loan at other clubs who could be recalled if needed.

They could also develop some of their younger players by giving them first team games.

Mikel was in limbo as such, and drifting in a legal mind field between two clubs. I believe Chelsea paid the £12 million to placate United, and allow the youngster to continue his career. Since then Lynn Oslo, or Mikel's agent (Can't remember which) has been found guilty of forgery, and thus Mikel was not contracted to United. Chelsea are going through the courts to reclaim the £12 million paid to United.
