Maybe it was, but like them or not you can't deny they have a huge fanbase.  Those fans may have wanted to see this story on the news.  When tickets went on sale for their UK & Ireland stadium tour they sold 500,000 tickets in the first 6 hours.  That's 15 years after their first album was released. Credit where credit is due.
