While that is also a fact, it wasn't the issue.
Ulster Colleges identified CPC played an ineligible player and took the title off them. No winner this year.

What age are the Forestors games?

In the normal GAA world you can play down to four calendar years, so if it's old school 5th yr, U16.5 then they could by old school 2nd years U13.5 and still be OK unless the colleges have their own byelaws.

FFS...at school level? What's a ringer in this case (alledgely), an older player?

Be mad if this is true?

I never get this 'ringer' craic. Coaches are just depriving a 'proper' player game time.

:o apparently the opposite in the case.

Is there a rule about the minimum age a player has to be?

Never heard that mentioned before.

Me either.

I thought teams and schools, especially smaller ones would have to dip into the lower age/year group to fill out a team.

Would they not give it to the other finalist?

I heard something about a goalkeeper having played in a younger age group and someone recognised him as the same player at another age group where the rules didn't allow a student of that age to be eligible for both competitions.

Interestingly, I don't see this specific competition in the list but you'll find the age limits at the bottom of the page.

U14 1/2

Hectic

So did one side complain that the other team played somebody that was too young?

It would be a pretty bizzare complaint to be making would it not?

'You only beat us because you played an underage player'.

I get rules are rules and if a rule is broken then it should have a written punishment.

But I'd still feel a bit wick if that is the complaint I was going with.

Duine Inteacht Eile

There was no appeal which is why it wasn't replayed or awarded to the opposition.
I believe a Saffron Gael report alerted Ulster Colleges to the problem.

Milltown Row2

Ballysaggart played an under aged player in a Junior club all Ireland one year, now I understand how people would say why would you complain about an under age lad, but this lad was exceptional and is still exceptional for Waterford

Begs the question did Ballycastle knowingly break the rules.  Be a bit of a stupid thing to do if they did.  Surely with the hurlers attending that school they didn't really need to stick an underage player in nets.

If that is who it was then he played in both the Foresters and Gallagher Cup competitions for them, although was outfield in the Gallagher Cup.

Is Foresters 5th year and Gallagher 3rd year?

I'm pretty sure the wee fella was an u14 last year so it is a surprise that he would be too young.

Hectic

So what are actual rules and do they change depending on the competition?

Because it is common for 5th yrs to be appearing in the Mageean Cup playing against lads 2 school years above.

So why Mageean but not Foresters?

Duine Inteacht Eile

There are specific birth dates provided for competitions.
He was outside of the dates.

I think that final was the first game he was ever with that panel. He wasn't even named in the programme.
So, I take from that they may have been aware.....
