Quote from: SaffronOak on March 03, 2025, 10:45:23 AMI was at the game in Carlow.  Decent first half but how we finished the game was excellent.  Yeah, they had a man less from around the 59th minute but Antrim were well on top before that.  It was a tweak in the system Davy had been using in recent times.  He didnt start with a sweeper but when Carlow brought a man back, we matched them - more so in the first half.
Second half we played with more forwards - bizarre statement I know but there was three inside forwards, allbeit they were narrow and plenty breaking from midfield.  It was very, very similar to what we have seen under Darren Gleeson to be honest.
If we play with that kind of energy against Laois, we'll be safe.  I'm very confident in saying that after witnessing the second half.

Laois still have a game against Carlow to play and with Antrim and Carlow drawing score difference may come into play if Antrim beat Laois and then Laois go onto beat Carlow.

If Carlow don't beat either Dublin or Laois they are back in the relegation mix along with Antrim for the second last spot.

What I'm saying is that Antrim can beat Laois and still get relegated, current score difference isn't in Antrims favour.

Carlow still have Westmeath at home though which you would think they will win, though it's no gimme.

Never much between Carlow, Antrim, Westmeath & Laois.

I missed that game, so the Laois game is even more important to Antrim as it may come down to a Head to head with them if both end up on 4 points.

U20s beat offaly in a friendly yesterday. There'd plenty of talent coming through.

I should have caveat-ed my post by adding that if all results go to form, a win for Antrim against Laois will be enough.  I think Carlow will finish on 6, ourselves on 5 with Laois and Westmeath below us.

If you need the six numbers for the lotto, just give me a shout.

Offaly have x10 players up with their senior panel going for promotion out of 1B. Still a good win but important caveat

Yep let's see how the U-20s finish out the season in competitive games, I would pay no heed to friendlies.
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

This year's Offaly U20 team is I believe is the U17 team that lost the All Ireland minor to Tipp in injury time 3 years ago, they would be strong enough setting aside those involved with the seniors.

This years Offaly U20 team is almost the same as last years Offaly U20 team and that includes Dan Ravenhill and Screeny.

They'd be widely tipped to retain their U20 crown.

Laois game now moved to Corrigan at 1pm

U20s also missing 3 players from their senior panel and cpc contingent.  Good win regardless.

There were highlights of the game on tg4 there. If you conceded the goal Carlow conceded you'd be sore about it.

Still from what I saw we looked sharp enough too. Nolan, kavanagh and Doyle always give us while bother.

100%. All I've heard today is about how Offaly were missing loads of players. Antrim don't get an awful lot of cause for optimism so its frustrating to see such negativity.

Not seeing too much negativity just calls for wait to we see how the competitive games go, it couldn't be any worse than last years debacle (that Paudie Shivers seems to have gained a promotion from).

Wexford beat the U-20s by 6 or 7 the previous week so again wouldn't be reading anything into it.

Why was the game moved?

Heard a couple of weeks ago, after the Offaly game probably, when the shit hit the fan & there was talk about moving it back to give more of a home advantage.

JonnyD_

the question is: why was it scheduled in Ballycastle in the first place?
