Quote from: paddyjohn on August 25, 2024, 11:59:26 PMIt was an absolute disgrace the Cushendall game was played tonight on that surface. Thank Christ nobody got hurt.

I think it was the same for JHC on Friday, All Saints v Armoy, few at it said it was treacherous

Ballymenas fault? Or the near two weeks of constant rain

Games played on different pitches btw

Can't blame Ballymena for the weather but surely some common sense.

Gael-in-exile

Looking at images online the water was clearly in puddles at Ballymena. The referee if I'm right takes responsibility for allowing the game to go ahead and in this case according to online comments it's lucky there were no injuries.
On a side note to this if the game had been postponed when would it have been played?
SFC next weekend, final groups the week after and a real lack of infrastructure to allow for midweek games.

Does it go back to the overall scheduling and fixtures as the issue?

I wouldn't blame Ballymena at all. I'd imagine it's the referee who does the pitch inspection?? When I seen players run through puddles during the warm up I couldn't believe the match was being played. Madness

paddyjohn

I was standing at the far side near the Scaffolding for the video men. A few Johnnies faithful had said they left it as late as possible coming down the road as they were sure it was going to be cancelled. Madness to play it but it's over so no point in going on about it.

Rossa V St Johns will be tasty now. I still think Cushendall will win it, McManus to come into that team also, they've not had to come out of second gear as yet.

Neither have Dunloy who should have Coby to come back, won't be much between the big three when it comes to it
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

True. And Dunloy won't get caught like last year.

Yes. Too many championship games in my opinion. Is there a possibility of a straight knockout again incorporating a back door system or something?

NAG1

Only was this system currently can work is if there is one group and its a round robin with either top 4 going to semi finals or straight to top 2 in too a final.

theskull1

Our games appear to be secondary to what our elites are ultimately focused on (just my perspective)

Can't wait for Cold Play

Fancy an upset for this years championship, St John's looking very strong.
I'm assuming McManus won't get near the cushendall team when he returns?

Gael-in-exile

I'd reckon Neil McManus will start for cushendall when needed. Is he not their captain also which would indicate a near assured place for someone of his quality?
St John's bottom of that group on score difference but having seen neither them or Rossa in the flesh it's hard to know how they'd match up against one another.

Will either game on Saturday week get the streaming service?

paddyjohn

I didn't take a lot away from Sunday evenings game. Pitch didn't allow for open hurling. St Johns missed a lot and I thought Sean McAfee was unlucky to get a red card.

I heard today Nugent from St Johns had broke a bone in his leg, hope it's just idle gossip.

imtommygunn

I expect Dunloy to win but wouldn't be surprised on cushendall either. Would loughgiel winning be a surprise? Couldn't see anyone else anywhere near it.

NorthWestAntrimGael

Honestly can't see Cushendall causing much threat this year, with an ageing  McManus it's Dunloy's to loose, would he not be safer playing for the Glenravel area team?
