Quote from: marty34 on May 20, 2026, 05:17:13 PMI said this before that Celtic winning the league will embolden the Board and justify what they did and how they run the club etc.

Unfortunately, Celtic, at the top level, are a mess.

A poor squad - I'd punt three quarters of them.

The lads they brought in in Jan. are brutal. Not Martin O'Neills choice of players,

The transfer dept. is a joke. Tidsdale

Interim Chairman Wilson is a joke.

Stadium run down badly.

No communication with fans. Had to plead to Green Brigade to come back to get Celtic over the line.

Only Celtic won the league there would have been uproar.

None of this changes because Celtic won the league.

while it was great to win the league, the downside is there likely won't be any real change or proper investment.

But there will need to be. Half the team is leaving, including any quality that was there. Plus a new manager.

I genuinely would be surprised if O'Neill doesn't stay on another year

If it's MON et al,, I doubt the management 'team'  will tolerate the existing state of affairs around the targeting of players and the tortuous negotiation processes.  Somebody new coming in might be fobbed off with the usual guff.

I can't see O'Neill doing another full season. Where is the incentive for him, came back won the title, if he wins the cup walks off into the sunset as a hero. Stays and there is a possibility of tarnishing his legacy.

Plenty of boys struggle to get that buzz elsewhere in life. Maybe enjoys working around a younger group and what else would he do? Talk shit on the radio? He's always come across as a man who doesn't enjoy sitting on his arse to me.

So is Rabbi Keane. He's just resigned from his current job.

Id take Robbie Keane ok. I'd  say they'd at least have the manners to offer MON a 2 year deal, he's deserving of first shout - whether it's best for the club in the long run is a big question tho.

I have a feeling MON will get another year and I believe he's already talking to the players now for another year with the likes of CCV, Jota etc. I think if he gets a few decent signings in and injured players back with his good man management and hoping the football standard (flair) improves then we can be decent next year and give them something to build on.
At least with MON he has that relationship and respect with the Board I think they'll back him...(I think)
I can swim a little but i can't fly an inch

Would prefer MON calls it a day, he has nothing left to prove, any drop off won't impact his legacy, its more the fact he's getting on in years and Celtic need a manager with the energy and hunger to push on the next 3-5 years

There isn't going to be any change in the way the club operates while Desmond is around.

I reckon it's Martin O'Neill's job if he wants it.  The Board won't have done anything while waiting for his answer.  Just like they have done nothing to speak out against all the nonsense spouted by Hearts, Tony Bloom and the media this week.  They left it to O'Neill who once again rose to the occasion with zero support from them.

Cup final tomorrow, surely a stress free, easy win is on the cards.....................

Jasus I know MON is getting on a bit but what he's done this year to win that league was just something else, I know his football is not silky and sometimes pretty on the eye but he's made us hard to beat and with some new flair players added to the squad and a few back from injury we could be a good team. Why would you not want him there for another year?.
I suppose there's no pleasing everyone but you know what you're getting with him, another manager is another gamble IMO. Bring back Nancy... ;)

I didn't know that one of the values of making a ht substitution such as Kelechi v Hearts is that it isn't taking up one of the three times in the game that you are allowed do a substitution.
