Yeah, heard them advertising that last night. Can't wait to see this.
I wonder is it just a repeat of the 'Performer' programme though?
Still, well worth a look even if it is. Legend of a man - amazing voice.

anyone have any working streams for rte1?

Was just listening to 'For what died the sons of Roisin' there last night. As appropriate now as it was when it was written. Luke had a fine voice for recitations as well.

For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it fame?
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it fame?
For what flowed Irelands blood in rivers,
That began when Brian chased the Dane,
And did not cease nor has not ceased,
With the brave sons of ´16,
For what died the sons of Róisín, was it fame?

For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it greed?
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it greed?
Was it greed that drove Wolfe Tone to a paupers death in a cell of cold wet stone?
Will German, French or Dutch inscribe the epitaph of Emmet?
When we have sold enough of Ireland to be but strangers in it.
For What Died the Sons of Róisín, was it greed?

To whom do we owe our allegiance today?
To whom do we owe our allegiance today?
To those brave men who fought and died that Róisín live again with pride?
Her sons at home to work and sing,
Her youth to dance and make her valleys ring,
Or the faceless men who for Mark and Dollar,
Betray her to the highest bidder,
To whom do we owe our allegiance today?

For what suffer our patriots today?
For what suffer our patriots today?
They have a language problem, so they say,
How to write "No Trespass" must grieve their heart full sore,
We got rid of one strange language now we are faced with many, many more,
For what suffer our patriots today?

Fair play to ye Deel Rover, I wouldn't have know about this.  Didn't see it advertised.

I would be confident that there are plenty on this board who have know idea who Luke Kelly is.

If you don't know, tune in tonight.  This should be compulsory viewing.  No excuses.
The sound of the Bould Luke lashing out 'The Hot Asphalt' is as good as it gets.

Looking forward to seeing this, the man was some chanter.

Typical RTE put the a great great program on a night where the majority will miss it .

Luke was some man.
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

Great show. The last song on the Late, Late Show was very moving. So too was John Hume on the relevance of The Town I loved so well.
Mayo for Sam! Just don't ask me for a year

A powerful & very well researched & produced documentary on Ireland's greatest ever ballad singer, this program was full of emotion from beginning to end, well done RTE.

Great show. The end made me feel guilty about preferring Mary Black's version of Song for Ireland- never realised it was his last song!

I must say a big thanks to 'the deel rover' for letting us all know this program was on tonight.

Thanks, Deel, I would have missed it otherwise. They were great, the lot of them but Luke was something else!
RIP.
Same to Ronnie and Ciaran. There won't be the likes of them again.
