The Hill is Blue

Your struggles are over Jim and the world is a poorer place.
Rest in peace.

He was a giant of a man on and off the pitch!

Have always wondered what he would have added to Dublin team in late 80s and early 90s. Am pretty sure we would have won more all Ireland's if he'd been in our midfield. As he was in the AFL he would have been one of the greats of Gaelic football!

RIP

Was in Melbourne last December, on a tour of the MCG and the tour guide was telling me how Jim was supposed to have a goodbye bbq the previous weekend which he cancelled to go for a last chance surgery. It was poignant to hear at the time, even more so to be reminded of it by last nights news. RIP Jim.

Gary Lyon's eulogy: http://www.triplem.com.au/melbourne/sport/afl/news/blog/garry-lyons-jim-stynes-eulogy/20120322-fxk1.html

Tributes like this clearly and vividly demonstrate the esteem in which the big fella was held and the huge impact he made in a foreign land.

In modern day times, have there been any or many who have made similar impacts on nations in other parts of the world ?.

Nice touch from Gary Lyon on the Footy Show last night.  Also, the NRL Footy Show paid tribute to Jim, too, last night.  There is an Indigenous Footy Show on ABC2 and he was lauded by the indigenous players especially Aaron Davey who highlighted Jim's particular connection to the aboriginal players through, what Davey suggested, was an affinity with their plight down the centuries.
The funeral is being shown live on Channel 9 next Tuesday morning.

And that gabshite Akermanis has been sacked from that particular radio show for his santerings.

The round 4 game Melbourne v. Western Bulldogs will be played in Jim's honour.  Wish I was in Melbourne.  I'd definitely have gone.
To find his equal an Irishman is forced to talk to God!
