My small insight - diet is massive get that right and you are more than halfway there..I used a training plan with my Garmin watch for 10k, it was easy to follow and held me accountable. The one thing I would be guilty of is going hard every day and busting myself, running for distance as opposed to time. In my experience when I incorporated slow runs and I mean slow I found myself making real improvements when it came to pushing a little harder as the aerobic base was being built though you have a good start here is your crossift / hyrox training. I also ran for time as opposed distance and improvements came - Addictive when you see improvement.

I have a Polar Pace Pro Sports watch, there was a firmware update on Wednesday and its fucked everything up, have done the usual,  uninstalled the Polar Flow companion app, now it won't pair with my phone. Don't see anything online about this getting sorted. Any ideas? Can you go back to previous app versions like u cud restore previous versions of things on a PC? Watch is still working fine, the connectivity is the issue imo

Good luck to all running Dublin at the weekend. Not a frequent poster but wondering if many of you are in a similiar situation to me. After running Belfast and Dublin in the past year and thinking I was fitter than I've ever been, I found out that I've high blood pressure, on ramipril for that now. I suppose better diagnosed than undiagnosed but would anybody be in the same boat and have continued to train for and run half marathons or marathons?

How did everyone get on in Dublin.
SHOCKING REVELATIONS!!!

Looks like you are getting good marathon weather, 10-15 C, no rain and low wind, good luck

Has any of our regular runners here  had any problems  down the  line, with wear and tear injuries/pain? Mainly the knees, hips, back etc?

I would imagine. pounding the roads  for years would have  some effect on the body, the joints in particular.

52 now, limit my runs to 5ks.. so far no issues, this after a playing career into my 40's.

No doubt the joints will let me know soon enough, I'm sure there are plenty worse off.
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

I am awful prone to niggly injuries but not serious ones. The way I see it running is unforgiving - any weaknesses in the body and it will hammer them. It's not that it's bad for you(it's not at all) it's that if you want to do it to any extent you want to be sure that flexibility and mobility are decent and strength is good especially as you get a bit older.

Yoga, pilates and strength work massively beneficial to it. Desk jobs are not  ;D

Hi guys.
I'm looking to get back into doing a small bit of road running and looking for a steer on what running shoes might be best suited to me.
I'd be doing three 5-7k runs a week on the road.
For a bit of background - I've never been a runner at all. I played Gaelic football and soccer up until my early forties (I'm 46) but my body would have been definitely more accustomed to repeated short sprints rather than longer runs. Even at my football fittest back in the day I'd probably have struggled to run a 5k on the road.
My body isn't really used to long continuous runs.
Anyway, I got into doing three 5ks a week a few years ago but in the past year I've stopped running. I really want to get back into it again now over the winter.

The runners I have now are Nike Pegasus 38s but I need a new pair.
Have been doing a bit of reading that seems to suggest that for distanced I'd be running approx 5-7k that I'd be better off getting a "faster" shoe than the Pegasus 41.
I've seen Pegasus Plus and Nww Balance FuelCell Rebel v4 recommended but just wondering if anybody on here who would know more about this stuff would have any specific recommendations?

Thanks very much in advance

Probably best go and get fitted for new shoes. Hard to recommend any shoe really as what works for me for example may not work for you.

Depends on what you're willing to spend. If you're only getting back into running I'd go for comfort over speed. Something like the new New Balance 1080v 14.  Cost about £160, good if you have a broad foot also.

should be able to get the new balance 1080v13 now for a decent reduction on that price, very little difference from one version to the other.
ASICS Novablast is another I would add to any list

I'd echo what Turf said. Getting fitted is the best thing I did. I know I need support. I bought the Adidas nova supernova. I think they are the best shoe I've ever had. Don't wear them too long. Replace them when they need to be replaced. I do 1000k and then bin them.

The dirty race

I still think the womens 1500 is loaded with cheats. Also where did dibaba go as loads of rumours about her.
