Another total shitshow from DFI
Total incompetence. To fail again is shocking. Surely questions must be asked of these people and their consultants?
They've had enough opportunities to get the paperwork in order

Knowing people in this area it must be very hard and worrying to have children growing up to learn to drive and eventually use this road so frequently!

Armaghtothebone

Is anyone genuinely surprised?

How many more have to die?

The blame clearly lies with DFI, the judge spelt that out.

He also said these issues can be remedied so it's not the end

Did John O'Dowd try to steamroller this through in the same way his party colleague Caral did with Casement? We've seen how that worked out. Why do we have to surround ourselves with incompetence in this shithole? The Shinners and SDLP voted in the Climate Change Act.

c***ts and all that they are, but the Alternarive A5 Alliance and their legal team are running rings around those in favour of the project.

If people  vote for incompetence, they deserve  incompetence.

The issues seem to be that the PAC raised an issue about the lack of statutorily mandated assessment on the impact of the state meeting its statutory obligations towards carbon neutrality before 2050 and a lack of hard and fast time frame for the extent of the interference with landowners human rights. Both easily addressable issues that were overlooked by the department.

They may appeal or more sensibly they may go away and do the thing properly and make the decision again.

So, climate targets and all that balls.... does that mean there would be more  chance of the Portadown to Derry railway  happening ?

The bigger question is how they were overlooked. It was reported on the news earlier that on each of the 3 occasions this has been knocked back it has been due to mistakes by DfI. When implementing a new act such as the Climate Change Act is there no impact assessment to assess what planned projects could be affected by the targets? If the A5A legal team could identify these shortcomings why could the people employed to be over every jot and tittle not identify them?!

Newton Emerson pointing out that the SDLP held the ministry when the Climate Bill was passed, and wanted a stricter version of it.

John Campbell of BBC Business says this:

In 2023 the Welsh government decided to scrap all major road building projects over environmental concerns.

Well that's the issue. The problem was even pointed out to them by the PAC and still ignored it seems.

You would wonder if one of the objectors loved ones had an accident on that road over the next few years if they would still feel it doesnt need upgrading.

I would say that this Alternative A5 were through the application with a microscope looking for any avenues to challenge. That's why, I'd be concerned that should they satisfy the Climate controls issues. Would another case be lodged on a different issue. It's a delaying tactic to prevent this happening as long as possible. There should be a limit to the number of appeals that a group can lodge.
