Apologies if this was on an earlier thread. i searched but couldnt find it.

I have booked flights to Nice in August. We are staying for 7 nights and plan to hire a car. I was looking for advice on places to see things to do when we are there and advice on resonable affordable accomadation in the area.

If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated. Cheers

Im going to Niece next year, looking forward to it.

Do you mean Nice?

Anyway head up to Cannes if you are there for a week. Its only 40 minutes on the express bus (€14.50) and it takes about an hour on the non express bus (€1.50!). There are 370 restaurants in Cannes and its a fantastic spot. Check out the marinas and do the tourist bus tour in Cannes, it takes about an hour. You can go on boat trips to San Margarete, the Island where the Man in The Iron Mask was held. You can also get to San Etinene too, both Nice and Cannes. The latter is another Island with woodland and wild life santuary.

Take the train to Monaco. It takes about 30 minutes from Nice. There is not a whole lot to do in Monaco but a short walk will being you into Monte Carlo where you can see the palace, gardens, the famous Monte Carlo Casino and  pay €7 for a coffee. You will walk though the famous Formula 1 tunnell and see the red and white strip curbs for the F1 all along the streets. You will also see lots of Fararri's, Porches and Lamborghini's roaring around the streets.

There is lots of high street shopping in Cannes and Monte Carlo if you have money to burn. Nice probably has the best night life between the three. There are much more clubs and bars and stuff. Monte Carlo is ridiculously expensive for everything so I wouldnt recommend eating there. Unless you find a spot in down town Monaco.

I had the comfort of a friends apartment the times I was there.

It depends on where you go and how fussy you are. You can find some self catering Studio apartments in Cannes and Nice that are very, very reasonable and perfect for a week break.
Hotels can vary, you can stay in 5 star spender and live it up like a celeb, or you can search for a more modest hotel. My advise would be to get a studio or small apartment. Prices again will vary based on festival weeks, of which there seems to be a lot in the riviera so research that before you go.
But enjoy it and lap it up. The French Riviera is beautiful and its where the French go to holiday. I like the cafe culture, sipping continental beers and eating on terraces and outside. Walk through the narrow streets in the old parts of the towns.
Also make an effort with speaking French even if you are terrible. They appreciate when you make any sort of effort and can be aggregated if you expect them to speak English straight away. And specifying "Irelande", your Irish - not English often brings a smile.

I'm going there on honeymoon this year - haven't been there before. There are some high quality apartments for rent, if you were looking for an alternative to hotels.

Any other suggestions on things to do (bar a day out in Cannes and Monaco) would be greatly appreciated.

I was only planning on staying in Nice for a week and then moving on - would there be enough to do in and around Nice for 2 weeks or are there any other locations along the South of France worth checking out for a week? What about Marseille?

Just a wee quick note, if your planning of hitting any of the casino's in Nice your have to be properly dressed.
You cannot just go for a walk along the beach and decide to hit the tables in your shorts as I found to my embarrassment when there.
Monte Carlo deffo worth a visit. Even just to look at the cars and the yachts. Good Irish Bar in the town square in Nice, lots of nice(lol) places to eat,
avoid the Iranian though, very easy to get confused with an Italian, but not the same type of food at all!
