Quote from: thewobbler on November 06, 2025, 11:08:10 AMI happened across a wonderful little town last year called Siegnosse Le Penon (Le Penon is the coastal area of the bigger town down the road called Siegnosse.

One of the best beaches I've ever stood on. All low rise blocks rather than high rise hotels. Extremely bike and pedestrian friendly; you can walk for miles without encountering any real incline. A really nice promenade with a mix of restaurants and takeaways. Pretty much only French people in town. And a handy run from Biarritz airport. Eating and drinking a little more expensive than here.

Best beach I ever stood on was Tramore Beach dunfanaghy, sometimes beauty isn't that far away.

Oh I agree with you. Murlough is among the greatest beaches I've ever stood on too.

Le Penon is a dead ringer for Murlough. Except it was 25 degrees!

Sounds exactly what I am looking for! If you can remember the name of the place you rented stick it in here. Will definitely check that out. The Provence area and Avion sounds lovely too.

That area does come with a weather isn't always great warning.. Was our first campsite place..

The Biarritz airport is a joy to fly too also. Super small buses outside to take ya to most places..

We hired a car, looking back it was cheaper then, so wouldn't do it now and just use that time to chill out around the parks

Quote from: thewobbler on November 06, 2025, 11:15:12 AMWe got a nice big house on the edge of the village between 2 families. Was expensive but not prohibitive.

But there's a world of seasonal housing in that area. Really can't imagine it's hard to pick up a small apartment at decent money.

Super, thanks

Indeed! Flew out of Stanstead a couple of times lately, never ever again!
Off to Liverpool next month and we booked the ferry, £90rtn with cabin / person (foot passengers). Not something you'd do all the time, but will make for a nice change, again, stress free travel

Tramore isn't even the best beach in Donegal.

I know it gets it in the neck but went through Belfast International at half term there and checked in and through security in about 15 mins total.
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

It and Carrickfinn Beach would be my top 2, well worth the long walk to Tramore beach.

Last time I was there it was just myself and my family a few hurls and a bit of a picnic, was about 28 degrees that day, was on the beaches in and around Nice over the summer none came close.

Portnoo beautiful although over used.

I just love The Boat Strand above  Carrickfinn beach, also the beaches on Cruit island are beautiful, Tra dhearg but particularly the one beyond the golf club has nobody on it, literally undisturbed.

Agreed. Tramore beach is something else. On a Sunday morning there are usually horses galloped round the beach. Muckish Mountain in the background. Breathtaking.

How did I forget Ballymastocker beach beside Portsalon.  It is famous for its long golden sands and was once voted the second most beautiful beach in the world by readers of the Observer Magazine.
