has to be the french one!there a lethal video on youtube of the irish soccer fans singing it before they played france!

You mean the one above where they go la la la la la to it ? I though it was very disrespectful

though there was no malice in it,just trying have a bit of banter
Didn't say their was any malice just disrespectful. I expect opposition fans to stand quietly during our national anthem and I do the same .
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

Turlough O Carolan

Though strictly not a national anthem, Europe's Ode to Joy by oul Beethoven himself is the best. Germany and Canada have nice tunes as well.

No tacky lyrical warmongery is a definite plus.
Back to the howling old owl in the woods, hunting the horny back toad

Donnellys Hollow

Flower of Scotland at Murrayfield before a big rugby international is amazing.

Better than that Phil Coulter dirge anyway.

There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

After ours,
(1) French
(2) Scottish
(3) Welsh
(4) Italian
(5) Argentinian

The Aussie one has started to be Americanised with some young blade warbelling and trilling when all the players and fans want is for the bloody game to start.

The worst has to be the Japanese anthem.  Deliberately designed to bore everyone especially the opposition to sleep so the Japs can sneak an early goal or two.
To find his equal an Irishman is forced to talk to God!
