Apart from Round 1 (5th April), any other provisional dates set for the first few rounds?

An email from a couple of months ago listed the following....

SUN 5 APRIL            Rd 1

TUES 14 April (Easter Tues)   Rd 2

SUN 19 April            Rd 3

SUN 26 APRIL         Rd 4

SUN 3 MAY            Rd 5

Actually, there are a few provisional updates to this.

30 April - 3 May: IFC/JFC Championship (County players only)
Sat 2 May: SFL/JFL R5

7 - 11 May: SFC/JFC (County players only)
Sat 9 May: IFL R5 JFL R6

15/17 May: SFL/IFL R6 JFL R7

23/24 May: SFC/IFC (non county players)
SFL/IFL R7 JFL R8

30 May: League Cup

After this depends on Tyrone except

25-28 June: JFC (non county players)

Something doesnt add up. If the games start on 5th April (when Tyrone only have 1 league game left) and the Armagh game isnt until 31st May then why is round 4 starred? Round 4 is down for 26th of April and Tyrone have no games around that time. Are the leagues not being played in order of rounds as originally set out?

They probably deviate slightly and play in order with the rounds removed - since R4 is starred then it'll go to R5. R11, as far as I can work out, will be the first round of starred games no matter where the other rounds have gotten to.

So championship is May then for definite ?

the new Rules and Tyrone
anyone else think that the new rules really suit Tyrone. It enables them to play their running game to great effect and it suits good footballers which we have all over the field. When teams have beaten us in the past it was often down to the negative tactics which they employed. Blocking runners, 3rd man tackles etc. The championship game at Healy Park against Derry really springs to mind. If those rules had been in place then Derry would have finished the game with about 4 players. The Rules also help ensure that games are high scoring, and if it comes to a shoot out I feel that Tyrone have the fire power to deal with most teams. The only problem I have with them is if the ref is not consistent which can happen a lot.

Championship in the first round of May could hit clubs that are unfortunate to go out at that stage very hard.  It will leave it very difficult to see the year out and with the current economic climate it could potentially lead to a loss of players to foreign shores.

Bit strange to see the Grade 1 minor champions for last year Ardboe operate in grade 2 this year.

Not really as they lose most of their players.  The same team was in grade 3 at U16 level and struggled.

We wish to advise patrons who were due to attend the fifth annual Tyrone All-Star awards gala banquet on Friday 20th February in the Great Northern Hotel that the event has now been cancelled.

We apologise sincerely for any inconvenience this may cause and we regret very much that we are now unable to proceed with our banquet. We apologise most sincerely to those who were looking forward enthusiastically to what had promised to be a great occasion.

Unfortunately, due to the unavailability of certain sponsors, invited guests, Tyrone players and nominees, we were left with a smaller attendance than was considered necessary in order to go ahead with our awards night.

Our decision to call off the event was reluctantly taken, and ultimately forced upon us, following the late withdrawal of several groups of guests who had requested tickets at an earlier date.
Obviously we are extremely disappointed that, after running four very successful gala banquets from 2004 through to 2007, playing host to a crowd of over 700 in December 2007, we are not in a position to honour the Tyrone GAA stars of 2008 in a manner befitting their outstanding performances and achievements.

But we also appreciate very much that the current financial climate has made it more difficult than normal for people to attend this type of occasion.
We do, however, intend to announce our award winners in every category in the near future and make arrangements to go ahead with a presentation to each winner. Full details of when the award winners are to be announced will follow shortly.

We wish to thank the large number of people who submitted votes and nomination forms since November of last year and can guarantee that these are currently being used to finalise our list of award winners.
We have no doubt that our gala banquet will resume at the end of the 2009 season when we intend to stage our biggest night of all with a huge celebration of what has been a glorious decade for the GAA in Tyrone.

That's a real pity about teamtalk. If Ls L's post is right there might not be to many around to accept awards later in the year.
