Likewise when games are called off due to no refs being available it should be the clubs that are not supplying refs that should be the first to go. Times last year underage games were called off due to no refs and clubs that didn't supply any refs games went ahead. Didn't make sense. The ref should be reassigned

Just right...games back to a Sunday...men working and rushing home on a Friday to get to the other side of the county. Am an accountant myself and I work to 4:30 going to aghyaran isnt ideal on a Friday...they should be in the Donegal league anyway...benny gallen would have been Donegal number 1 for years.
Any word on the gortin situation? Heard they're calling in prince Charles to try sort the whole thing. So the greencastle men were telling me, chat soon mo chara

It says a girl who is a member of the GAA club. I can't imagine she was sent by the club and if was official representative would surely be the Chairman or other senior member. I don't rem any word at the time about that... would have been very controversial.

It was very controversial... I remember the committee at the time had to contact the Ulster Herald to delete all posts about it due to the backlash we received.

Which committee? Badoney Ladies was a separate club to Gortin St Patricks, even played at a different ground.
I don't rem any controversy.. isn't that long ago

Me either. The Dissidents would have been all over this and I don't remember that.

Shortage of refs is no doubt an issue, but the amount of people involved in running clubs nowadays is stretching resources, so the number of people with the time to get involved in officiating our games is decreasing.
At one time it was a matter of sweeping out the changing rooms, cutting the grass on the pitch and getting it lined, put up the flags and ensure there's someone at the gate to take the money...
Now we have committees for everything, clubs have gyms which are open to everyone not just players, they have bars, they provide facilities for functions etc. plus almost all clubs have at least one second/training pitch, all of this requires people to look after it.
The Gortin situation is a bad one but in a lot of clubs you have issues, it's turned into a power thing, people want to get involved in 'the committee' so as they control the narrative, clubs are paying outside managers when there are people within their clubs more than capable of taking the senior team, mainly down to personalities.
I saw a post about the cost of outside managers and it is ridiculous to say the least the amount of money that is being wasted, in the article it questions why the money isn't spent on coaching underage teams, but again that's a bigger issue in a lot of clubs. The Coaching officer role that was introduced is usually given to someone who is not right for the role and they go about creating their version of what it should be, they get all of their mates and relations in to take all of the various teams and proceed to train them as mini adults (because they don't know any better), Go Games players spending 10-15 minutes doing warm ups and stretching, same at the end of a session, this is where clubs really need to focus, getting the correct people into the right roles, not a case of which one of our group of friends would be interested in that job...coach education is important but you can only educate those that want to be educated too...

Any thoughts on the proposed league changes for div1 and 2 next year?

For anyone unaware the majority of club delegates have voted in favour of splitting both divisions into a and b. Top 8 teams in div 1 this year will qualify for 1a next year then next 5/6 plus promoted teams playing in 1b.

Relegation will be the same with bottom team in the b league being relegated with the next 2 entering a relegation playoff. top 2 in B promoted to A and bottom 2 in A relegated to B

No more playoff for the league title with the top in A winning it. Starred games are worth 2 points for a win and non starred worth 3 for a win.

Compared to the other option of 7 starred games worth 2 points and 8 non starred games worth 3 points with the result being top half teams get 8 home games the following season as a reward. Option B of 1A1B2A2B3A3B is definitely better.

This is incorrect.
There hasn't been a vote on which option to go with yet.

There will be a restructuring of the All County Leagues at Senior and Intermediate level in 2026. Club delegates will vote on their preferred options at the next monthly meeting of the County Committee (Tuesday, April 1).
