Lads playing football from March-September be glad of a break.
March?

Jim Devlin Cup started mid April
Reserve Leagues commenced at the start of April

Good scattering of Tyrone clubs in the ulster league from memory too

I can see why some people would say its a very short season, on the surface it looks like that. But I think training schedules and mindsets still are adjusting to the split season.

In February and March there is the ulster league for teams to enter, and maybe more will enter to satisfy the games itch.

Then in April you can have the preseason competitions, whether that be regional leagues or cups or whatever.

Then the week-to-week, regular league football from May to August. This certainty of fixtures has been the biggest improvement to the schedule in recent years.

Championship September and October

So a season for many clubs would be January/February - September/October. Seems about right to me

Hopefully keep Jim Devlin Cup and add similar Intermediate and Junior competitions.. used to be McGarrity Cup and Frank O'Neill Cup.

Would there be any merit to adding a post season completion to run from mid-September for 3-4 weeks for clubs out of the championships and with no remaining commitments, maybe some amalgamations or district teams?

I don't think so. Once out of the championship I don't think too many players would have motivation for what is effectively a b-competition. Pre-season be good to get them up and going and look at new emerging players imo.

Is there no room any more in the schedule for the U-21 competition?

Missed the game. What was it like? Any stand out performances?
No real stand outs, Conan Grigan man of the match, Omagh looked the hungrier team and looked to have it won but for the goal at the end of injury time. Plenty of needle but all round a good championship game, Omagh will be gutted to lose it, Aidan Clarke done a great job on Bradley, Danny Gorman the same on Ronan O'Neill

Killyclogher were impressive enough in the opening 15 minutes but fell apart for the rest of the game and only come alive again in injury time to win it. Omagh will be gutted at that one as they were the better team by a mile in that 2nd half. What did Gallagher do at the end?

Killyclogher scored the goal, Oisin McCann went right up into Hugh's face and he dropped him like a sack of spuds. Was knocked out for quite a while.

This craic of roaring in a man's face after a score / final whistle. You don't deserve assaulted for it but your entirely playing with fire doing that to the wrong man. Omagh and Dromore can feel hard done by.

Trillick and Errigal in second gear. More to come I'm sure.

Loughmacrory most impressive so far, really looking forward to that quarter final. Two good teams with top players at the scoring end of the field.

Would tentatively go for Clonoe tonight with the Fianna men that are missing but wouldn't be surprised at the reverse of this. Bigger game coming later on and Coalisland seem to have the voodoo sign over them in recent years.

Intermediate is set up lovely after that first round, quarter finals should all be watchable. You'd fancy the 4 teams with senior experience in the last 2 years to make the semi final but wouldn't be a given.

In terms of the bookies odds I think every favourite won this weekend except Gortin, which wasn't necessarily a big shock. Think Galbally and Loughmacrory were pretty much the same odds. Perhaps the biggest shock of the weekend was the fact there wasn't any draws, although this game tonight may well change that.

Edit: carmen and ardboe  may have been slight underdogs but wouldn't have been much between them.

Did Gallagher get carded at the time? With it caught on camera and with the Ulster council pushing the One ouch can kill message he could be facing a long suspension.

He was red carded at the time.

If you watch it again it's clear that McCann initiates it. He throws his hands towards Gallagher and Gallagher throws a punch back. Is Gallagher expected to stand there and take it?

tyroneStatto

Wonder if the Rahillys will rue that missed goal chance. It seemed impossible not to score it.

square_ball

Seems to be a fairly strong breeze. Shane Meehan not allowing much contact.

tyroneStatto

How long was young McCann out cold for?
