Agreed Loughshorelad  - Ardboe have definitely been one the big underachievers of the era - winning one championshio with the squad of players they had was a very poor return - you're entirely right - talent can get to the top of the hill but talent alone will win nothing  - you need that extra wee bit - and Carmen and Errigal had it everyway. Sadly we didn't and we don't now.

QuoteOn paper, it's hard to look past The Rock but Palor McNulty has taken more teams out of Junior Football than any other man in the county.

Is that a fact Tyrone?

I know he took, Beragh, Urney (At least once) and Owen Roes out of div 3....Newtown as well?

Just for the record Palor never to Beragh to Junior Success, He took them to the Intermediate double in 2000

I thought he went from 3 to 2 to 1 in successive years? I'd say you'd know better than me though.

Harte welcomes McGuigan return

Tyrone's Brian McGuigan
28 September 2007

Tyrone football boss Mickey Harte has expressed his pleasure at the fact that ace playmaker Brian McGuigan is back doing light training.

The former All-Star has had a series of bad injuries over recent seasons but Harte says he is now making steady progress.

"He is much happier than he's been for a long time," said Harte. "Brian has had an awful time of it with injuries in the past couple of years.

"The consultant will see him again in a few weeks time and he's back training on his own."

We wish....

Brian is a fantastic player but even if he does make a return too many of the other players are content to rest on thier laurels, pass the buck and talk the big game year in year out.

orangeman

Loughshore - that seems to be the way of it alright - but brilliant news about Brian nonetheless.

And maybe we can go on an extended run in the c'ship ( past May at least ) !!!!!!

hoopsaaa

Past May is always good. When i first started back in the day, if you were beat in May that was the training over for the year. You struggled to put out two different 15's on a Sunday. How things have changed.

Did you read the Gaelic life today ? They reckon that Armagh and Derry football is light years ahead of anything else in Ulster -  is Tyrone that poor ? I don't think so - it mighn't be the best but it HAS to be the most competitive !

seen that alright orangeman i wouldnt agree with that at all. Probably has more to do with Ballinderry and Cross being successful on the all-ireland stage. have seen a few armagh champ games and the standard is not particularly high. if u took ballinderry and cross out i would say both counties would be of a lower standard than tyrone.

For what its worth, i think that the final isnt as clear cut as oneillcup2007 is making out. Dromore have experienced more hurt in recent years that the fianna and that could maybe be the crucial factor. Dromore are well able to mix it and play football at the same time and i have a sneaky feeling they might edge it.

Orangeman or Loughshore Lad, would either of u be able to post the Ardboe team of 1998 just out of interest to see who was on it etc. Was Brian Mcguigan playing back then?

orangeman

Brian Mc Guigan broke his collar bone in August of that year I think in 1998 - was captain of Tyrone minors - Cormac Mc Anallen was vice captian and lifted the cup that year - Brian Mc Guigan came on in the county final and helped turn the game in Ardboe's favour in the second half.
Not many of that team still playing - 4/5 I'd say -

sam03/05

I think that the Gaelic Life article is wrong.
For me Tyrone have far more club teams than these other counties - as a result there best players are more spread out amongst clubs. You have great players from all types of clubs e,g clann na gael. moy, ctown. The smallest club can provide a great footballer every now and again. This is reflected in the Tyrone teams at all levels. In Derry and armagh you have about three/four clubs who provide most of the players for the county set up. Thus I believe that the championship in Tyrone is more competative than in these other counties.

orangeman

Sam - I agree that the football in Tyrone is the most competitive - bit is it the best football ? Doubtful !

ziggysego

I can see what Sam is saying. How can Armagh be the most competitive? After all Crossmaglen have won the Championship 11 years on the trot and look set to add a 12th.

For the last number of years, it has either been Errigal or Carmen in Tyrone, which doesn't speak competitive to me. However, thankfully that is changing in 2007.

In the same paper, Carrickmacross manager says that Derry is first, then Armagh, then Tyrone, then Monaghan - and he says that the reason given by him for Tyrone being so competitive is that there is rarely a weekend when there isn't a league game on !!!

I'd say he doesn't know Tyrone football that well based on this statement - fixtures are a joke !

I notice that Tyrone are looking for sponsors for all competitions for the next 3 years - sponsors for all levels - form the county team down to under 8's -

I wonder how much sponsorship they're looking for the under 21 competition ??

Football in Tyrone needs a radical overhaul both in terms of the attitudes of the clubs but more especially the administrators - some of whom are complete dinosaurs - others are on power trips -

The main bone of contention has to be to do with fixtures ! A transparent system of arranging / changing fixtures needs sorted out immediately  - everybody feels shafted and this shoudn't be the case !

ziggysego

Sponsorship is going to be hard to get when the player's number has to go on the front of the inter-county kits from next year on and possibilty club kits in 2008/2009.
