Quote from: Armagh18 on November 05, 2025, 07:28:02 AMGreat to see Mamdani win in NYC. Trump will be throwing the toys out more than usual.

He'll try to do more than that. He has already pulled federal funding for the desperately needed new railway tunnel under the Hudson as well as an extension of the subway line up 2nd Avenue into Harlem. He'll also try to make good on his promise to end the city's congestion pricing operation that started this year, although I'm not sure what authority he actually has on that front.

Most of all though, expect him to start sending ICE into the city in massive numbers to harass and intimidate (and worse in some cases) anyone with brown skin (and there are huge numbers in NYC). I'm sure there will be a few early am helicopter assault operations on various projects and in places like Corona, Queens along the lines of the one they did in Chicago last month when people, including little kids and the elderly, were dragged from their apartments in the middle of the night. He'll federalize the state National Guard too and send them in to supposedly fight crime under the guise of NYC being a lawless hellhole. Which it of course is not, but even if it was, that would be a policing issue.
Those ICE boys need the shite knocked out of them. Absolute cowards and thugs

Any truth in the posts online that the big drug men have put bountys on some of them? New York would be paying more into the pot than they take out I'd assume?

Washington has entered its longest-ever federal government shutdown, as the impasse between Republican and Democratic legislators drags on and Donald Trump rebuffs calls to negotiate. Wednesday marked the 36th day of the government shutdown, breaking the record set in 2018-19. It has left hundreds of thousands of federal workers on furlough, without pay, closed some services, and disrupted the supply of food stamps for 40mn Americans who rely on them. On Tuesday, the president warned that his government would only restart food benefits for the poorest Americans if "Radical Left Democrats" opened up the government. Republican congressional leaders have called for Democrats to agree a stop-gap legislative measure to keep funding at current spending levels. But Democrats have said they will not agree until Republicans reverse planned cuts to healthcare tax credits due to run out at the end of the year. Trump has refused calls to meet top Democrats to strike a deal, even as polling suggests Americans blame him and his party for the shutdown.

"ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt this morning announced the creation of a "Mamdani Monitor" to track all policies, appointments and actions by the Mamdani Administration that impact Jews"

There was a swastika hate hoax just in time for Mamdani to condemn.

NYC running on fumes of past glory, like US itself.

Her adult children are being affected by the health insurance increases.

As has happened many times, the effects of policy on actual real human beings that are close to the politician in question has a tendency to focus the mind and cut through the moronic, half-baked, hateful bilge that they're normally selling. It's easy when it's the "other" subhumans that are being hurt. Not so much when the targets are close to home.

Nancy Pelosi steps down

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce3xw3dw0zxo

From Yahoo.com

"Pelosi has generated a cumulative return of 816% from her investments, beating the S&P 500 by a whopping 559 percentage points.

In contrast, the poor Oracle of Omaha has only managed a 282% cumulative return for Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK-A)(NYSE:BRK-B) during that same period -- better than the benchmark index, but it's no contest: Buffett is no Pelosi"

Where hard work gets you folks. Enjoy retirement Nancy!

Too many people have become millionaires in congress.

Big boost for Newsom with the passage of Prop 50. Raises his national profile further. I know they say a Californian can't win, but I'd bet good money on Newsom for president in 2028.

AOC and Mamdami are still young yet, plenty of runway for them to go further. Mambami's victory speech was very impressive, Bernie-flavoured rhetoric delivered with Obama's style.

Newsom's speaking style is a bit different, he doesn't do the Obama-style soaring oratory because he speaks without a teleprompter. His dyslexia means he has to know his stuff and speak without notes, which has all sorts of advantages and disadvantages.

Mamdami wasn't born in the US so there will be no presidential bid in the future

Could get as far as governor or US senate though. That's not nothing.

Democrats piled up impressive electoral wins in Virginia, New Jersey and New York City this week, the Republican party became increasingly embroiled in the row over its far-right flank. "It is the beginning of a reckoning of the American right with this dark underbelly of especially young, very online people . . . who are attracted to figures like Fuentes," said Ilya Shapiro, a senior fellow at the conservative Manhattan Institute. "Those on the right have to police their own stables as well." House speaker Mike Johnson called Fuentes — whose interview has already been viewed more than 23mn times — "blatantly antisemitic, racist and anti-American". He added that he did not think Carlson should have given a platform "to that kind of speech".
