Two good speeches. Harris is a straight up star.

Biden needs a catchier line to finish on than "May God protect our troops"
I really like Harris, a real sharp cookie. But does her voice not sound a bit whiney/nasally? I know thats a petty criticism, just wondering is it just me?
Harris is going to get the same treatment Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton got from the flat earthers, except far worse

Expect all the same birther conspiracies, she'll be branded as a fake black while simultaneously being painted as a radical communist Black Panther, and a prostitute - none of it has to make sense

Her voice and manner will be slaughtered, she will be painted as "deeply divisive" and "shrill"

"Divisive" is white supremacist code for "black"

"Shrill" is code for "woman"

It's moot whether Trumpism has gone away or not because that will depend on what Trump does and what happens to him but what has definitely not gone away and will only increase is totally irrational, insane white supremacist anger against people of colour, simply for being people of colour

There are tens of millions of people in America who have the same opinions Eugene TerreBlanche had

I think your call on Shrill and Divisive is spot on.

I think that much of what I would want a Democrat president to achieve will have to take a back seat for the first 2 years. Regrettable but true.

Right now Biden has to deal with COVID and the divided nature of the nation. Trump has personally lead those 2 problems to Biden's terrible starting position. He needs to de-Trump America. The quicker he gets that done the quicker a progressive programme can delivered. Mid term elections could help.

Unfortunately America remains one of those places where "progressive" can have negative connotations

What exactly would you like him to achieve?

I would like to see
- a clear Nationwide definition of who is allowed to vote
- a clear nationwide rule on when, if ever the right to vote can be removed
- a clear nationwide rule on when, if ever the right to vote can be restored.
- a clear nationwide rule on how elections are run to include full use of modern technology
- an all party discussion on where appetitive lies for Court reform i.e. what age a judge retires at, when a judge can or cannot be appointed.
- clear nationwide standards of policing
- gun law reform.
- living wages
- candidate's interests Disclosures
- candidate's tax disclosures
- possibly health disclosures
- rules on candidate debates and interviews
- And the biggie - healthcare funding

My understanding is that the First four won't happen because there are 50 states each with their own set of rules. Might get a Supreme Court ruling but I think they tend to avoid these types of issues

All the rest are quite reasonable and should be doable if people put their differences aside

I'll try:

Act like a grown-up and a normal decent human being.
Do not indulge or spread conspiracy theories.
Do not embrace racists, misogynists and strongmen and the rhetoric and ideologies they espouse, especially in your own administration.
Rebuild ties with other democratic countries.
Do not demonize or dehumanize immigrants, Muslims, LGBTQ, political opponents.
Reunite with their families all of those kids Trump, Stephen Miller and Jeff Sessions ripped out of their parents arms without a second thought and shipped across the country.
Come up with a humane and sensible solution for illegal immigrants, including Dreamers.
Listen to scientists and professionals who know what they're talking about, whether its COVID, or vaccines or climate change or whatever.
Get the US back in the Paris Agreement and reverse Trump's destructive environmental policies, whether its logging the Tongass, drilling and mining in national parks and ANWR, abolishing fuel and water standards, stripping protections from wildlife, promoting fossil fuels at the expense of renewables etc.
Get an infrastructure programme up and running; f**k knows its overdue with new bridges, tunnels, rail and roads needed everywhere. It will create plenty of jobs and pay for itself multiple times over.
Lead and act as a voice of reason when it comes to policing and minorities. Promote sensible police reform as appropriate. Do not try to foment violence to your own ends like Trump did.
Try to work with the Senate if McConnell allows. If he refuses point blank, even on bipartisan issues such as infrastructure or criminal justice reform or healthcare, then do what you can with executive orders.
If the Supreme Court throw out Obamacare next week, get to work on a solution. Republicans are happy to see people go without as long as they can use this issue as a political football. Real lives are at stake, so do the right thing.

I didn't know that Obama had removed Churchill's bust from the Oval office. If  the bust was still gathering dust in some cupboard and  Joe was up to to the task, take a sledgehammer to it, smash it into smithereeens and send it in a diplomatic bag to Johnson.

Reasonable and sensible gun control (and severe penalties for straw buyers etc)

Free public transport For low income residents

UBI (with conditions)

Multi Trillion investment in inner cities (administered by professionals without political affiliations otherwise it will become a slush fund)

Policing reform-investment in non lethal technologies, civilian ride alongside, hiring of minority officers

Imprisonment only be used as a last resort-put non violent offenders  to work in their communities

Massive investment in health care programs to address obesity, diabetes, heart disease-hire minorities and veterans. It would pay for itself in 5 years

Ban tobacco

Rule put in place as to how soon to an election a, SJC can be appointed

Current tax return requirement for ALL seeking public office

Path to citizenship for dreamers and non criminal undocumented coupled with stringent border and immigration enforcement

The quicker he gets that done the quicker a progressive programme can delivered. Mid term elections could help.

Unfortunately America remains one of those places where "progressive" can have negative connotations

Right wingers have a totally paranoid obsession with certain words

Socialism, communism, progressive, radical etc.

They proclaim themselves as lovers of "freedom", "liberty" and as having "common sense"

The is a total inversion of reality

Right wingers hate real freedom, liberty and common sense

They are radical, radical regressives

In reality, people like AOC, Bernie Sanders, Katie Porter, and the progressive movement, the Black Lives Matter protestors, the climate protestors - these are the people who love real freedom, real liberty and real common sense

What is the ability to live your life as you want without being demonised simply because of your skin colour or gender or sexuality? It is real freedom

Right wingers are against that

What is the freedom to vote,
The freedom to marry who you want
The freedom to have control over your own body
The freedom to not have to worry about where your next paycheque is coming from if you fall ill
The freedom to not have to worry about how you can pay for healthcare if you fall ill
The freedom to breathe clean air and drink clean water
The freedom of minorities to not have to worry about being arrested and permanently condemned to being a member of an undercaste simply because of who they are
The freedom to have security in terms of employment
The freedom to have security if you do lose your job
The freedom to have security in terms of retirement

That is real freedom and it is only the progressive movement who are in favour of real freedom

The Republican party and right wingers despise freedom

The type of "freedom" Republicans like is the "freedom" of the 0.1% to create a plutocracy, the "freedom" of police to murder people with impunity, the "freedom" to utter hate speech, the "freedom" of white supremacists to terrorise, the "freedom" to destroy the natural environment and the future of the human species

Republican "freedom" = tyranny, radical tyranny

It's time the progressive movement took the "positive" buzzwords of the right wing in America and started using them for themselves - because in reality all those words apply to the progressive movement, and very definitely don't apply to Republicans

It would be an interesting experiment to get people to list 10 Americans who exemplified a real belief in freedom and liberty

Absolutely not.....I'm a fiscal conservative.....I believe every single thing I posted up there.

That's why I laugh at some people claiming I'm some crazy right winger....nothing could be further from the truth.  I'll confess that I'm right of center when it comes to fiscal and law enforcement issues.

There's plenty of money over here to give everyone a fair shake. And by everyone, I mean people who want to work, obey the law as best they can and raise their families

If you want to be a fvck up and make bad decision after bad decision, that's on you......I shouldn't be forced to subsidize your lifestyle

What about subsidising the life of someone who isn't a f**k up?

Main Street

Hopefully it's the end of an era when elected officials including the President can function unaccountably as a dangerous demagogue spreading blatant support for racist, white nationalists, white supremacists as well as  spouting xenophobia. 'The racist tweet was just passing through my account, I didn't read it'   is no defense for a pleb never mind the president for that matter.

That when evaluating the performance  of such an elected official, the evidence of  blatant racism, demagoguery and xenophobia is not reduced to the negative value of a misplaced apostrophe.

I can give you one specific example of somebody who's a f**k up and has made bad decision after bad decision, and yet has been subsidised by the taxpayers - of which he is not one

That example is Donald Trump

And you just voted for him

So you, like all right-wing idiots, either do not believe a word you say, or are simply full of shit

In your case it's both
