Tracing old playing records

I'm trying to verify when a certain player was a county minor hurling player. He has since passed away. He played back in the 50s or 60s but at the same time there was a member of his club with the same name who played with him. How do I verify which was which? I could go by his date of birth but this is not always available on the team sheet. Anyone out there know how to go about this task?
