Met Robbie Keane in Manchester last summer and he was very hateful.  Told him I was a big Ireland fan, and he continued to blank me.  Thought the captain of the national team (who I had paid an open fortune to see) should have shown better example.

Also met Steve Finnan in a manchester airport just as he was flying home for the Ireland-Germany match and he was a gentleman.

I met a good few of the Irish players over a few pints (or bottles) in the Hilton (I think) in Basle after the insipid 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in Brian Kerr's era after Mick McCarthy left. They were sound out in the main, with Graham Kavanagh and Mark Kinsella especially sound. Shay Given was sound as well, watching Eurosport highlights of the game and he was disgusted at the goals he conceded. Ian Harte was there, and he was sound as well. No w*nkers really, and I felt sorry for them because they were really hurting.

I couldn't get over how small they all were, although Shay Given was 'normal' size alright. Kinsella and Harte were like pixies, and Damien Duff (who I wasn't talking to) was like a little under 14 lad.

I've also met Norman Whiteside (sound), Mick Channon (deadly craic) and Jim Roesenthal (w*nker).

I'm sure I've met a couple of others, but can't remember now.

Hope it was Kerry Mike.

Shay Given ****** * **** ******* in our house one night. Sound bloke though - seemed to take it well later on we recreated one of the goals he let in during that years WC qualifiers by stand up the bedroom wall and booting a load of 'borrowed' beach balls at him.

Doogie Browser

Be careful with the thin line between humour and reality Donagh  ;)

Donagh

Okay the balls weren't borrowed, but we did intend to bring them back. The rest is true.

One thing for certain, if Kenny took you to dinner, you're paying!
