Quote from: Blowitupref on February 09, 2026, 01:03:12 PMAs a defending champion the previous time Liverpool also had their struggle under Klopp the following season. Remember this set of results?

After that run Liverpool won 8 drew 2 of their remaining 10 games to finish 3rd, any similar kick in them right now or will they put a bigger focus on the Champions League?

I can't see it.

That year, Klopp toyed with the use of Henderson and Fabinho in defence, which put themselves in unfamiliar positions where teamwork and coordination is key, but also robbed the team of their significant effectiveness in midfield.

Once he he happened upon making Phillips and Williams the centre pairing and played the strongest players in their positions in the rest of the team, things went back to normal for the run-in and they started winning again.

This time out, while there are significant injuries across the squad, they're not focussed on one position and cannot be blamed for the overall struggles and inconsistency of the team. It's a transition season, end of story. Unless Chelsea struggle, I can't see Liverpool suddenly transforming and getting the 30-odd points they'll need to guarantee top five.

I could see them getting to a CL semi perhaps, with the right draw, but I think they're done once they meet someone like Arsenal, Bayern or City.
Slot could learn from this and possibly give Ramsey a run at right back, rather than having to play the best player this season out of position.  His hand might have been forced due to Gomez, Szobo, Frimpong, Bradley being unavailable but will probably go with Jones there on Wednesday.

Some good results in our favour tonight, a shame we probably won't take advantage of them tomorrow night.

Yep was thinking the same. These are only good results for us if we manage a win tonight.  Wonder which side of the pitch Sunderland will attack?
That's just, like your opinion man.

Endo gets the nod at right back. Sunderland haven't lost at home this season.
Can't see it changing tonight.

Jones still on the bench...must be something in the rumours he had a falling out with Slot

Liverpool back on track for a top 5 finish after that win tonight. Hard to believe Sunderland was the last unbeaten team at home this season.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Not pretty but thought looked better in first half.
But what do we have to do to avoid the jittery last 5/10 minutes. The lack of composure when defending a slender lead is shocking.
Grammar: the difference between knowing your shit

Endo looked in some amount of pain, the right back position is absolutely jinxed this season.

Read someone on X saying we should put Gakpo back there!

One step forward, one step backward at the min. Szob back from suspension and Gomez back now as well but jeepers squad is thin to say the least. In saying that we only had 5first team  players out yesterday (Isak, Bradley, Frimpong, Leoni, Szob and at a push Bajectic & Danns).

There's much made of Salah's loss of form and that is true, but Gakpo is stinking the place out as well.

There's an example last night where he ran straight into a defender when someone (Robbo?) was free for the overlap on his left hand side in an acre of space. Maddening to watch.
