Extending Mignolets contract has noting to do with holding onto him. More getting something for him when we sell him. January is a dead rubber when buying players. You never get anything decent at that time of the year, Only players with the same level of talent that Liverpool are trying to get rid of. Most players signed are loaned back until the end of the season.

Luis Suarez. Javier Mascherano. Liverpool didn't do too badly out of January transfer windows then.

Phillipe Coutinho,  Daniel Sturridge, Daniel Agger, Martin SKretl.  Liverpool have always been able to pick up good talent in January.

I disagree with your assertion that 7 players and a manager is "not much". Its quite a lot. Also in terms of strikers, Benteke is a decent striker, he just isn't being utilised properly. Although i would sell Sturridge and buy another striker anyway.

The priority should be a new keeper and replacements for the woeful midfield of Lucas, Henderson and Milner.

Unfortunately Allen, Lucas, Milner and Henderson are all dung, so even when one is injured it still means the central midfield is really weak.
