Whereabouts are you from? I remember around the Christmas/New Year period in late 1995 when the night time temperatures got down to -17c!

I think there was one particular killer frost around 27th December in 1995. But any talk of 1963 neglects the greats snow of 1982 when it was seriously cold for a week and people were walking up and down the canals in Dublin after the first couple of days.

Wikipedia, that paragon of information, says "The lowest-ever recorded temperature in Northern Ireland was on 1 January 1979, when −17.5°C was recorded at Magherally, near Banbridge, County Down". Now I am not trying to downgrade Castlederg's claim to fame, but it is interesting that Dublin and Kildare were lower than this, something that I wouldn't have expected.

Who would have thought that Glasnevin would be the most frigid of all.

reminds me of when living in holylands, drinking money was more inmportant than oil! used to be going about the house with about 3 jumpers and 2 pairs of tracksuit bottoms!
